The food was delicious, but a little fussy - sometimes, a mille feuille, is all that's required - if I wanted ice cream, etc., I would order it. It is a little expensive for what is essentially a steakhouse. The service is excellent - our waiter was friendly, organised and had a great sense of humour, putting up with our teasing. My issue with the ambience was that we were out on the patio - it was on offer (and yes, I could have chosen not to book, but if it is on offer, one expects it to be comfortable) so I booked it. It is winter - everyone knows this; if you offer a patio in winter, one needs to make it comfortable. Yes, there were little heaters attached to the wall - in use, and fairly useless - yes, there were big gas heaters - not in use, and not switched on, despite a request, and an offer to do so. Finally, there was a nasty little wind - definitely not nice - we had to ask for something to keep warm, and then blankets were brought, which were great. I just think, if you are touting your restaurant as upmarket and all about the guests, then these things should have been out before we arrived, or if not, then immediately as we arrived and pointed out we were cold. Overall, still had a good time, and as I said, the food was good.

We had a very nice and relaxing Saturday lunch at the Old Oak - service was impeccable, food tasty and the atmosphere inviting and cozy.
