Pan-Asian cocktail lounge and restaurant situated in the iconic Mount Nelson, a Belmond Hotel. By Chefs Warehouse.

Halal: To note that while we can accommodate diners with our vegetarian or pescatarian menus which do not include alcohol or pork in their preparation, our kitchen does use these ingredients and we do have a bar on site.

Nuts & Alliums: Our menus use ginger, garlic, onions, spring onions and nuts extensively.

    The first thing you notice about the Red Room Restaurant is the temperature with the air-conditioning fully ramped up it’s really quite cold inside. The restaurant also has no windows and is very dark, which I guess is meant to add atmosphere but people were turning on their iPhone torches to view the menu! The food was quite nice and plentiful, but with so much competition for this type of Asian Fusion cuisine in Cape Town it was not quite up with the best. Pricing was fair, sevice good - and it was a pleasant enough experience but we would not be rushing back.

    The food was excellent & beautiful! The staff too attentive that it became a little akward.. and the room to empty and freezing cold! I needed a blanket because it was that cold! Not comfortable

    I was quite disappointed with the dining experience at The Red Room, considering it being part of the Chefs Warehouse. We had exquisite meals at Beau Constantia, where we were blown away by the culinary creations. That’s why we wanted to check out the other restaurants within the Chefs Warehouse concept. But The Red Room's food quality was by far not comparable! All the meat we ordered within the set menu was very dry. The rest of the food (all fish/sea food or veg) components tasted great… But compared to other Asian Fusion restaurants (like Nikkei) didn’t really live up to the expectations. TBH, I was shocked seeing our bill of R2000+ for a dining experience that was quite mediocre. The service provided by the cocktail waiter and manager was great, but our food waitress explained she was still a “learner” and didn’t know much about the menu and which condiments to pair with which of the food items. She also couldn’t tell us what she actually brought to our table. That being said, she was very friendly and nice though. I’d not recommend this dining experience to anyone and will definitely not visit it myself again. The only amazing part about The Red Room is the ambiance / interior design, which is my favourite out of all the restaurants in Cape Town I’ve visited so far. I’m very sorry that I can’t say anything nicer about this place I had so much high expectations for.
