I had a great experience spending time at the hotel with my mini family. My wife hasn’t stopped talking about how lovely and friendly the staff members were. Williams was extremely patient and understanding throughout our stay. A special thank‑you to Erich, who took time to play with my son — the little one truly enjoyed himself. It was a wonderful experience being a guest in my own workplace. Thank you to the entire MNH team for making our visit memorable.

Very nice restaurant with a great outdoor terrace. Very good service. One of the best Negronis in Cape Town! The service was very friendly and attentive. The food was consistently very, very good. The beef Wellington was excellent and one of the best I've ever had. All in all, highly recommended.

The food wasn't quite up to the standard that you will find elsewhere in Cape Town, particularly at the slightly elevated price point that a hotel of this standing charges. William was a charming waiter, however they were clearly understaffed as it was 40 minutes from when we sat down to when we received our first drink. Being an international 5-star hotel meant we were next to the customary loud Americans in hoodies, which is not the Mount Nelson's fault, necessarily, I accept (aside from perhaps considering introducing a dress-code that befits the setting, which is one of the city's most chic spots).

On 31 January 2026, I took my extended family to the Mount Nelson for dinner. I was expecting an experience similar to the one I had two years ago when my daughter turned 21, which was absolutely exceptional. Unfortunately, this visit fell far short of those expectations. All dishes were presented under serving lids, which once removed revealed very small portions of food that were neither visually appealing nor particularly appetising. Not a single person at the table enjoyed the starter or main course, and the dominant conversation throughout the evening was disbelief that this could be considered 5-star dining. Only the dessert offered a brief glimmer of promise. Based on this experience, I would strongly recommend a serious rethink before choosing the Mount Nelson for what is meant to be a special dining occasion.
