Toevlug will open on Annandale Wines on the 1st of October 2025. Toevlug will focus on simple South African produce-focused cooking. We are very happy to partner with Drikus Brink again, one of the most talented young chefs in South Africa.

Toevlug means sanctuary in Afrikaans, however, the word Toevlug is much deeper than just a sanctuary. Toevlug is a space where you feel warm and safe and cared for and that is what we are creating at Annandale.

The food was as always delicious. We were disappointed about the unfriendly waiter. Luckily the manager took over. She is great and very friendly. She made our evening successfully !

A feast for the body and the soul. Such peaceful ambience and the most impeccably balanced dishes at locally competitive prices. Generous portions. Truly an accessible gem - well located between Somerset & Stellenbosch on Annandale Wines, Annandale Road. Lovely spot to impress your mother, brother, boss or lover. I would go again & again to try everything else.

The atmosphere and decoration is very nice and the staff friendly. Some of the food was way too salty. The main course arrived when we were still eating our starters for no apparent reason (did they want to get rid of us? did they mess up the timing in the kitchen?). The restaurant has a dog that is allowed to roam around the rooms and even though it's friendly and cute, and they tell you to let them know if it bothers you, I think they shouldn't let the dog go into the dining rooms.

We had a great lunch ending with the amazing fig tart desert. David was our next level waiter.
