In 1994 Nelson Mandela Square, then known as Sandton Square, opened its doors to the public and Trumps Restaurant was unveiled. For over 21 years Trumps has fed locals, tourists and celebrities alike, and in 2015 began a complete rebuild from the ground up.

Two decades after opening as the original restaurant on the square, Denis, Allen and Michael Martin have evolved the Trumps Grillhouse restaurant into a new world class, fine dining destination – a Grillhouse, butchery and wine establishment second to none.

Its no coincidence that the Trumps Grillhouse logo is a bull in his prime - symbolising being the biggest and best at what we do…meat!

We have frequented your restaurant four times within the past 2 months and must tell you that your food is great. However your service had lots of room for improvement.

The restaurant was extremely accommodative of my guests. They made us feel so comfortable and so welcomed. Furthermore if you ever need a patient and awesome waiter ask for KG!

Service started a bit slow, for the first 10 min or so we didn't know who our waiter/waitress was. Once that was established and our waitress took our first drinks orders, things improved. Chicken trinchado starter was very tasty, springbok carpaccio as well. Lemon herb calamari was great, garlic herb calamari sauce was a bit thick but not unpleasant so as to ruin the meal. Main salt and pepper fillet steak was phenomenal. Tasty, melt in your mouth deliciousness and cooked to medium rare perfection. Exactly the same with the salt and pepper crusted rump steak. Melt in your mouth tender and delicious. The ostrich fillet was just as good. Those three dishes alone make it worth a return visit. The last dish, the lamb shank, was a bit of a disappointment - but let me emphasize it was a personal disappointment, not an overall disappointment. The lamb is served with a BBQ and red wine sauce which tasted a bit too much like BBQ, it was not totally unpleasant, some people most probably enjoy it like this, but the BBQ flavor to us personally was just a bit overpowering for something - for lack of a better word - as delicate as a lamb shank. I also put that down to us being used to a garlic & herb or rosemary flavored taste when it comes to lamb dishes. I used to work at Sandton Square in the late 90's and had lunch at Trumps a few times. The food was extremely good then, and it still is, in actual fact it's better than I remember. Overall experience was really enjoyable all around. We will definitely return in the near future.

Regrettably, our waitress was not 'present' and seemed to struggle to concentrate. One of our party received a pepper encrusted steak instead of barbecue basting which a very professional manager sorted out but also meant that meal arrived after the rest of the party had completed our meals. all our steaks were pale/bleak and bot caramelised at all and looked anaemic. All the steaks were cold but the sides were good. This was a unfortunate event compared to previous experiences at Trumps.
