Midweek dinners under the stars, Friday nights with friends, special occasions celebrated in style, and a delicious breakfast menu – join us for a memorable dining experience in the heart of Plettenberg Bay.

The main dining room sits in the oldest part of the hotel, in the original building constructed in 1777 as an army barracks for the Dutch East India Company before being converted into an Anglican rectory in 1869. An exquisite, centuries-old stone wall adds warmth and character to the space while the building’s heritage inspires a bistro-style menu that draws on Dutch, English and South African influences.

We had a wonderful celebratory dinner at the Old Rectory. Sat outside on a warm summer’s evening, enjoyed the excellent meal, backed with friendly, efficient service. Thank you and well done.

This is my favourite restaurant in Plett but last night did not deliver as I’m used to. Lamb rump was fatty and tasteless as was the couscous…the service whisky very friendly was way to slow and the meals way too long a wait

Hi Richard Thank you for your honest review, and ongoing support, we have taken rectifying steps to improve and can't wait to show these off to you. See you soon.

We were most disappointed with the food and service. In the past we have had meals where both food and service have been superb, but it would appear that there was a major problem in the kitchen on this night. Firstly we ordered fillet steak to be told that none was available. How can this happen, you know the numbers exactly and would surely have a “staple” such a fillet steak available in all situations. We were told that rack of lamb was available. Our wives changed their order from the fish to the lamb, however what was served was nothing like a rack of lamb, it was 50

Restaurant 1777 at The Old Rectory responded on Mon 23 Feb 26:
Hi Philip A heartfelt apology to you and your group regarding your dining experience that fell short of our normal standards. An unfortunate event in the kitchen that snowballed and affected the rest of the evening service. We have learned and adapted to ensure we are better and better prepared for the curve balls that we might encounter. We do look forward to your next visit.

My fish was awful arrived with nasty soggy skin and dry vegetable. Sent back and prawn linguine arrived which was SWEET so no score. We should not have been charged. Will not go back although the house and location very special.
