Midweek dinners under the stars, Friday nights with friends, special occasions celebrated in style, and a delicious breakfast menu – join us for a memorable dining experience in the heart of Plettenberg Bay.

The main dining room sits in the oldest part of the hotel, in the original building constructed in 1777 as an army barracks for the Dutch East India Company before being converted into an Anglican rectory in 1869. An exquisite, centuries-old stone wall adds warmth and character to the space while the building’s heritage inspires a bistro-style menu that draws on Dutch, English and South African influences.

Due to inclement weather we were seated indoors, which was disappointing as we had hoped to sit outside. There were five of us dining. One person ordered a starter of prawns and avocado, and then we all had a main course. Initially, the waitress told us there were no prawns available, until we pointed them out on the menu. She then carefully wrote down the order, confirming “one starter and five mains,” which we agreed to. After waiting around 40 minutes, the mains arrived — but the starter never did. One of the mains, the bobotie, was badly burned. Although it was clearly overcooked, my guest chose not to complain and ate it anyway. We later ordered dessert, but unfortunately the panna cotta was completely solid. Overall, it was a disappointing evening with several service and food issues that detracted from the experience. We won’t be returning.
