From the start, in May 1996 it has been our goal to delight each guest with a superb dining experience in our warm, relaxing venue set in the heart of the glorious HELDERBERG countryside. We use only fresh, often organic and where possible local ingredients to prepare our dishes.

They are inspired by SOUTH AFRICAN favourites and flavours from around the world. The fresh seasonal and inspirational menu changes almost every day, the main menu four times a year.

Founded by ex-Johannesburg restaurateur Ken Forrester, Devon Valley wine maker Martin Meinert and Chef Kathy Romer- Lee, the opening was preceded by lengthy debates in Kens kitchen about the butternut colour of the interior and the name - Butternut? Wine plays a major role in the partners lives and many of the local winegrowers are regular patrons.

    Had a great meal here last night. We all had the Hollandse Pepper Fillet (200g R295) - Prime cut fillet, house cut chips, pepper and brandy cream sauce, flambéed. Very nice and very filling, reminded us of a rustic French Restaurant, the steak was excellent. We will return.

    My favorite is the Pepper Filet Steak . As always fantastic . My 2 Guests also enjoyed the experience. Hope to go back soon .

    The food and wine selection, as well as the cocktail options were just divine. The food portions were a little on the small side, especially the mains, but other than that we truly cannot fault it! Everything was delicious and exceeded our expectations. Concerning the service, there were three different individuals attending to our table, which made it a little confusing when it came to drink orders and who to tip at the end of the evening. That being said, they were all super friendly, well informed and professional throughout. What made our evening the most memorable was the complementary glasses of MCC to celebrate our wedding anniversary! It's these small extra touches that really makes 96 Winery Road special. You will definitely being seeing us again soon!
