We booked a table online and received both an SMS and email confirmation. It was on a Sunday nbight. Table booked for 19.00. We arrived 5 minutes ahead of time, saw our name on the guest list and suddenly the gent at reception appeared to be at sixes and sevens as our table had been given to someone else. We were told our table would "be ready soon" and ushered into the bar, where we were offered free champagne. My wife took the free champagne. I declined. Some 40 minutes were later we were collected and taken to our table in the restaurant. Basically we had to wait for another guest to finish first. The maitre'd apologized and said we could have a bottle of wine on the house. The meal and service were both good. When it came to paying the bill, we noticed that we had been charged for the wine. When I queried that I was told that the offer was for a ":free dessert", yet my wife and I both clearly heard the maitre'd say the wine was on the house. We decided not to argue, paid the bill and left. So a disappointing final result, considering the seamless online booking system and dodgy promises from what is supposed to be an upmarket restaurant. We have stayed at the Drostdy many times before.
