In December 2004, owner Niel du Bois followed his heart, gave his creative spirit free reins, took the plunge and did what many people only dream about – opening an open air restaurant literally on a beach. Where the best seafood is prepared and enjoyed in Spartan surroundings – just like on the West Coast.

The first De Vette Mossel Beach Seafood Restaurant was born. On an isolated and pristine beach at Groot Brak River near Mossel Bay.

Thanks to the continuous support by our newly found Mossel friends, De Vette Mossel grew and grew. At De Vette Mossel your hosts are local Hermanus residents, Gustave and Charne du Bois. They grew up with De Vette Mossel and love the sea and all it has to offer, as well as hosting guests.

    This was a special for senior citizens at half price. I understand that it was a limited menu. All was goid until the last course - the meat potjie with rice. There was not enough food for everyone and about 15 of us did not have any if that. It was finished too soon and was not replenished. Although we were told that more will arrive, it never did and people went home grumbling. I think he misjudged himself with how much old people eat. The quality and taste of what we had was 100%, but we left feeling disappointed…. Unfortunately we will not be back.

    Will definitely recommend this to everyone. It was a pensioners day nice to have people of our own age together. Nice food, Venue.

    I hope you do the pensioner lunch as a regular thing...perhaps once a month. We enjoyed the experience so thank you for making the effort
