In December 2004, owner Niel du Bois followed his heart, gave his creative spirit free reins, took the plunge and did what many people only dream about – opening an open air restaurant literally on a beach. Where the best seafood is prepared and enjoyed in Spartan surroundings – just like on the West Coast.

The first De Vette Mossel Beach Seafood Restaurant was born. On an isolated and pristine beach at Groot Brak River near Mossel Bay.

Thanks to the continuous support by our newly found Mossel friends, De Vette Mossel grew and grew. At De Vette Mossel your hosts are local Hermanus residents, Gustave and Charne du Bois. They grew up with De Vette Mossel and love the sea and all it has to offer, as well as hosting guests.

    We had a wonderful time at Vette Mossel in Hermanus, as always! We invited some friends along this time, and they absolutely loved it too — their kids had such a great time. The food was delicious, fresh, and perfectly prepared, and the relaxed seaside ambience made the whole experience even better. Highly recommended for families and friends looking for a fun, laid-back dining experience. We’ll definitely be back again soon!

    Absolutely delicious food. Each course so well explained and presented everything so tasteful. Would definitely be back and recommend to any wanting to go try it out what are you waiting for. Love the fact that it’s so kid friendly so much to do for the kids. Love love love

    We had our dates wrong & whilst we intended to book for the 12th I selected the 19th. The hosts handled it so gracefully and in the stride to accommodate us & even gave us three options of a table setting to choose from!

    I must compliment you guys on everything the entrance,the good atmosphere,delicous food,excellent service,friendly staff. We really got value for our money.
