Dukkah Restaurant & Bar on Durbans Florida road is a high point on the durban dining scene - a modern and luxuriant social hub with an upscale cocktail bar and lounge.

Dukkah is open for lunch and dinner and serves delicious cuisine that takes its influences from the eastern coastline of our continent. Designed by chef extraordinaire and TV celebrity Peter Goffe-Wood, the modern cuisine draws inspiration from the Maasai Market, Nairobi and Stone Town, Zanzibar in the north all along the Spice Route to the culinary melting pot of Durban.

    Everything was pretty good. Loved the music, livelines, and the overall vibe. However, when I received the bill (there were only two of us) the tip was already included. I asked the Server was this a tip and he attempted to say it was something other than a tip. I typically tip 10% for service is acceptable and will tip up to 20% for exceptional service..The server was far from being attentive (we tracked other servers to help us on more than one occasion) and 10% was already added to the bill. Because he looked so upset I added another 20 rand. He asked me what amount I added...rejected the amount... rolled his eyes.. did the thing with his teeth... and walked away. This effected the way I felt about my first experience there. If a place has OK food but excellent service, it draws customers back. However, if a place has excellent food and inattentive and rude waiters, I'm likely not to patronize that restaurant again.
