Honestly the food did not taste nice. It was flavourless. I had the Wagyu burger and my wife had a steak and mash.... the best part of both our meals was my chips!!!!

The service and the food did not meet expectations. For the price and the five star venue, I expected much better food and presentation. It felt more like an in door picnic and that's not good.

We have to admit our favourite waitress during our stay was Zizi. Justin was wonderful in sorting out booking discrepancies we had. The breakfast this morning was incredible and Kieran the first was lovely. Our waiter from last night was wonderful too though, regrettably I’ve forgotten his name.. Please compliment all your staff from us and keep up the good work

Most disappointing experience. This simply cannot be regarded as fine dining and is incongruous with the 5 star rating of the hotel. Upon arrival, we parked our car. We were transported in an open golf cart in cool temperatures to the entrance of the restaurant from which point, one takes a lift to the actual entrance of the restaurant. If I hadn't clung on with both hands, I would have fallen out of the golf cart! I was formally dressed in a long dress, which I consider appropriate for a fine dining occassion. I was not dressed for golf! Upon arrival, we were expected to scan in the menu and access this from our phones! COVID was given as the explanation for such a situation....What is a person to do who arrives without a cell phone?? Turn around and go home I assume? At the restaurant, in spite of having made a booking for a special occassion, we were ushered to a table in the back corner of the restaurant. The table was not set, no table cloth, no placemats, cutlery etc. Upon saying that this was not acceptable, we were offered a table in the upstairs area, which used to be The Belle Terrace restaurant when the restaurant and hotel was under previous ownership. Again, the table was unprepared. The decor was bland and modern. The menu was limited and uninspiring. The cutlery was delivered wrapped in a cloth serviette and delivered by the waiter. The background "music" was intrusive and unpleasant. Stale bread rolls were delivered in a sealed brown paper bag to the table. I ordered the rock salmon. Were it not for the sauce, it would have been completely tasteless. Our waiter, named Talent, was pleasant and attentive and quite frankly, was the only positive I can report. We were going to order the cheese platter for dessert, but cancelled. When I asked if we could be transported back to reception in a closed vehicle, as offered when the Westcliff was under previous ownership. We were told that this was not possible. We elected to walk back to reception. The Westcliff hotel under the Orient group, in its traditional elegance, refinement and splendour is sorely missed. It used to be the epitome of fine dining, but sadly this is no longer.

Our Waiter Talent was incredibly kind and helpful throughout the meal, Thank you. I did find the portion size for the Plant based Vegan slightly small and would have liked a little more potentially but otherwise it was nice. The Rock Salmon was really good and we enjoyed that meal. The male toilet was also clogged with toilet paper and the urinals were in direct view of the door with the door constantly tending to the open position. I wondered whether making that door swing closed could be a better idea as the female bathroom does require one to walk past the male bathroom. I also was not sure that I understood why certain areas in the restaurant were deemed to require a R900 extra pay in order to sit there as they are only for private events however this was not mentioned when I made the booking and I didn't see any event during the evening. This area was also more open space allowing for better infection control comfort. The only reason that I gave a low score for recommendation was on account of the cost, but overall I really enjoyed.

Great venue and location. The service could be better given the number of staff around. We did find the food options quite limiting. The Cauliflower soup and Lamb chops were very good. The Prawn starter lacked taste and flavoured and did not go with Guac. It was quite cold and strange that there are no heaters to accommodate external seated guests. Though we asked for a blanket and were given one.
