We do an Idiom outing once a year and have done so since 2021, we did miss last year due to conflicting plans. But if you had asked me to review them the last time I was there it would have been 5 stars across the board. However, things change and i guess one of those things is that this farm is now very much pushing for commercial wine farm status. The food was not bad, but has become commercial fine dinning, looks and taste good, but quality not really there. My pork was dry and the Ceviche was paired with the wrong sauce, still made good photo's. Idiom has never been cheap, but in previous years the tasting fee was waved because we would have lunch at the restaurant after tasting and we would have bought cases of wine, so the fee was a drop in the ocean of the day's spend. This was not the case, although a discount was applied, it was so minor and was absorbed by the tip for the server and wine consultant. It is not unusual for a wine farm to wave the tasting fee if the customer buys wine; which is the actual point of the tasting and if you then spend more money on the farm at the restaurant then comp us the tasting. Added to this was the mark up on the wine at the restaurant was significant and we were not allowed to buy wine at the Tasting room for the table; and was informed that that is to prevent people from buying wine for less and bringing it to the table...yeah money grabbing energy, not sexy. The good stuff, the winetasting was handled beautifully by Kyle and he made it interactive and interesting without making the wine dull or out of reach with too much story. The service was good, with minimal waiting time for our orders to arrive, there was some waiting, but we had drinks. The farm is beautiful, the wine is gorgeous and the wine tasting if handled by the right person an experience. Based on our most recent experience we would probably only go for the tasting and eat somewhere else, where we can drink the wine we bought.
