    We visited I Kara on 29 November 2025 and had a truly awesome evening. From the moment we arrived, the welcome from the owner — along with his constant, genuine check-ins throughout the night — made us feel like valued guests. We tried a variety of starters, each one more delicious than the next, and ended up sharing a main course because we couldn’t resist sampling so much. Everything was absolutely spectacular. To finish off, we tried two desserts — and they were on a different league altogether. Absolutely perfect. Considering the restaurant has only been open a few weeks, the standard is exceptional. Please keep up the quality — it was amazing. We will certainly be back!

    Our first experience, unfortunately, was not a good one. The gentleman at front of house welcomed us warmly and explained the concept beautifully, so we genuinely walked in with high expectations. The starters arrived — very expensive for such small portions — though the taste was good. The menu overall is extremely overpriced for what is being offered. The calamari arrived with no sauce, despite being a starter portion of R150. Both myself and my friend, who visited last night, are frequent diners — and I work in the industry — so it was quite clear that things were not handled correctly. My friend ordered the melanzane, which arrived almost like a soup. It had to be returned, and when we asked for the bill, it was still charged. No manager approached us, no apology, no offer to replace the dish or make things right. I understand the restaurant is new, but there is a basic level of professionalism needed to ensure guests leave feeling at least somewhat satisfied. The space itself is nicely decorated, but the atmosphere feels empty — almost like walking into a hall. Beautiful marble floors, but it has a “lights are on but no one is home” feeling. The owner was in the kitchen, apparently as the chef, and the dish that was returned would have been visible to her, yet she never came out to check on us or ask how it could be resolved. I truly wish them success, but at these prices, with this level of service and lack of attention to guests, it simply isn’t worth it.
