    We recently celebrated my daughter’s 18th birthday at Jakkalsvlei and, unfortunately, the experience did not live up to our expectations. When I made the reservation, I was specifically asked whether it was for a special occasion. I mentioned that we were celebrating my daughter’s 18th birthday. Upon our arrival, we were told that we had been seated at the “birthday table,” but there was absolutely nothing that made it feel any different or more special than any other table. We also mentioned to our waiter that it was her birthday. He simply said he would keep it in mind, but never even wished her a happy birthday. We weren’t expecting a free dessert or any grand gesture, but since the restaurant had specifically asked about the occasion when we booked, we did expect at least a warm birthday greeting or some small acknowledgment. In addition, we asked for a wine list so we could order wine. Unfortunately, it never arrived, and as a result, we left without purchasing any wine. The venue itself is beautiful, but the service and attention to detail were disappointing, especially for what was meant to be a memorable milestone celebration.

    Hi Nicola, Thank you for your response and apology. Unfortunately, returning to Jakkalsvlei isn’t really a practical solution for us. We live in the Northern Cape and were on holiday in George. We deliberately chose to drive all the way to Jakkalsvlei to celebrate our daughter’s 18th birthday, even though there were many lovely restaurants much closer to where we were staying. The disappointment isn’t about not receiving a complimentary dessert or anything like that. It was simply that such an important milestone wasn’t acknowledged at all, despite being asked about it when making the booking, and then the requested wine list never arrived either. Those small touches are what make a special occasion memorable. I do appreciate your apology and hope our experience will help ensure that future guests celebrating special occasions receive the attention to detail that makes those moments truly special.

    Great service, really attentive! Wine is amazing and can definitely recommend the pairings! We were helped by André can definitely recommend asking for him to help.

    We just sat at very bad spot, at the door. But keep in mind it was cold so everyone went in and out at that specific door.

    Love the modern restaurant and wine tasting setting. Staff are exceptionally friendly and informative. Enjoyed the whole experience and will be back!
