We like Lievland because it provides a beautiful setting for informal, relaxed family dining. However, Father's Day left us really disappointed. There was no sense of celebration. The hostess was so stern-faced that we almost felt like we needed to apologise every time we carefully approached her. And our waitress, whilst good when she was actually at the table, was missing for most of the lunch - we were only able to order after 45 minutes because we asked to order, and thereafter it was a constant game of "find the waitress". Some of the other wait staff took pity on us and provided additional very good service, but that unfortunately didn't make up for the lack of engagement from the person assigned to us. We will most likely visit Lievland once more, because we do think it has potential, but if the experience is similar, it will then be our last.

The food was very average. We had the smoked snoek and hake croquettes, which were tasty but served with a very uninspired accompaniments. My partner's roasted cauliflower was the best dish. My son's rump steak was fine, my eisbein was crispy but dry, and served with a mulch of sauerkraut drowned in a so-called mustard sauce which had no mustard flavour - in fact I asked the staff where the mustard sauce was. The waiting staff were polite but uninformed, unobservant (not enough cutlery on the table for 3 people, wine glasses not monitored) got the wine order wrong, and service was very slow - the place wasn't even full and it was a set menu! They also did not undertstand the food when asked questions. I would not recommed this as a place to eat - there is a lot of competition in the winelands.
