Situated on the Rhebokskloof Estate in the heart of the Paarl Winelands, Lume offers a fire-led fine dining experience shaped by season, place, and atmosphere.

Founded by Marco de Matos and led by Head Chef Lance Peters, the menu unfolds as a curated journey through Opening, From the Fire, and Final Light — each dish crafted over flame to illuminate flavour through smoke, texture, and balance.

Complemented by a carefully selected collection of Cape wines and original signature cocktails, Lume invites guests to slow down and experience dining as an evening to be savoured.

We were really excited to try this new fine dining restaurant, but unfortunately, the experience felt more like a tourist trap than a true culinary destination. We dine out regularly at this level, and there are far better options nearby offering significantly better value for money — places like Noop or Brookdale Restaurant come to mind immediately. The one standout was the plating — visually, the dishes were beautifully presented. However, beyond that, the experience fell short. Service was disappointing: courses came out far too quickly, and when we raised this, it was simply ignored. There was little to no explanation of the dishes, and when there was, it was rushed and barely audible. From a food perspective, the execution did not match the ambition. While the dishes looked refined, several elements were either undercooked, overdone, or tough. The so-called “hero” components lacked impact and didn’t deliver the flavour one would expect at this level. Small details also detracted from the experience — notably very dirty windows, which is surprising given the otherwise beautiful setting. Despite there being only a few tables, there was no engagement from the chef, which felt like a missed opportunity in what should be a more personal dining experience. It’s a real pity, as the property itself is stunning and holds so much potential. Sadly, based on our experience, we wouldn’t return.

Each plate had a rich depth of raw elemental flavours, uniquely prepared and combined to deliver an unforgettable dining experience. The service was friendly, honest and unapologetic, which that left us with a sense of homeliness and comfort. A 5-star experience. Thank you, Lume.

What an incredible experience at Luné Fine Dining Restaurant. We enjoyed a beautiful two-course menu, with a refreshing sorbet served as a palate cleanser in between — such a thoughtful touch. The wines were excellent and paired perfectly with the meal. The staff were attentive and professional, and it was wonderful to see the owner/manager personally engaging with guests and ensuring everyone had a memorable experience. From the elegant food to the warm hospitality and the breathtaking view over the valley, this truly felt like a five-star dining experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for special culinary experience in Wellington
