MAMASAMBA

Excellent food, disappointing atmosphere. We visited Mama Samba on 19 September at 19:30 for a birthday celebration. The food was excellent, the drinks were great, the presentation was beautiful, and our server was professional and well-spoken. Unfortunately, the atmosphere ruined much of the experience. A group of ladies next to us became extremely loud, screaming and creating a scene. The music became so loud that we could barely hear our server. Mama Samba is a high-end restaurant, not a nightclub, and some level of consideration for other guests should be expected. The worst part was one of the ladies dancing barefoot between the tables, stomping and throwing her legs into the air. Apart from being inappropriate, this is unhygienic. We had specifically called earlier that day about the dress code and were told that short shorts and revealing clothing were not allowed, yet this behaviour appeared to be tolerated. Even more disappointing, some staff seemed to encourage it while the music was turned up even louder. Where was management? Someone should have stepped in when the behaviour began affecting other paying guests. To make matters worse, a random man also took photographs of us while we were sitting in our booth without our permission, apparently thinking it was funny. This was extremely uncomfortable and inappropriate. The food, drinks and service deserve praise, but the lack of management intervention and consideration for other guests made what should have been a special birthday celebration very disappointing. Great food cannot compensate for an uncomfortable dining environment.
