The fried chicken was a bit fatty and not all that crispy like other Korean fried chicken I've had in the past made at authentic Korean restaurants. The fries are falsely named fries and are just chips with a stiff dip that's difficult to coat the chip with. The glazes were quite tasty. Really a lovely place though and the service was amazing. I really wanted to enjoy the food but sadly did not and will likely not be a returning customer.

We had a fabulous dining experience at Maru. It is an unusual and entertaining restaurant with an air of the unexpected . And tantalizing on the tastebuds too. We were initially a little overawed by the menu but Zia, our smiling and professional waitress, enlightened us, gave us the perfect advice and spoilt us with her excellent service. We loved our evening and both commend and recommend Maru (and Zia!). You’re in for a treat!

The appetizers: the omelet was way too salty, three unappetizing prawns (unpeeled) in a white mush, the oysters were strong and fishy. Then came the main courses: KFC – completely coated in thick batter that wasn't cooked through, Korean cauliflower that was mushy and overcooked, and worst of all: a tough ribeye that arrived 30 minutes later than the other main courses… The Hendrick's G&T was topped off with a lime – the basics of bartending: there wasn't a single fresh cucumber in either the kitchen or the bar 😳 Seriously the worst food in Cape Town in 10 years! 😔
