This legendary exclusive revolving restaurant was officially opened in February 1973. The Roma was born from a concept pioneered by Bartholoeo Ribero, Turi and Gino Leopardi. Now proudly owned by the Reelin Group and managed by the Leopardi brothers. We are proud to say that we are the only genuine revolving restaurant in the southern hemisphere and the 3rd of its kind in the world. Roma Revolving Restaurant also boasts the unique feature, as two others do, of a revolving window and floor area! The restaurant is situated on the 32nd Level of the John Ross House overlooking the whole of Durban and surrounding areas with excellent sea and bay views.

Our visit to the Roma Revolving Restaurant yesterday, where we took one of our clients for dinner, was unfortunately a disappointing experience. The food was simply not up to the standard we expected from what was once regarded as one of Durban's premier dining establishments. I ordered the fish, which was underwhelming and lacked flavour. Our guest was encouraged to try the crocodile, but he could only eat half of it, commenting that it was far too rich. The overall ambience has also changed dramatically. The restaurant seems to have lost the elegance, warmth, and vibrant atmosphere that made it such a memorable destination in the past. The service was slow and lacked the attentiveness we remembered, and many of the staff appeared tired and disengaged. It was disappointing because we chose Roma to impress an important client, based on its long-standing reputation. While the views remain spectacular, the overall dining experience no longer matches the reputation the restaurant once enjoyed. I genuinely hope management invests in restoring the quality, service, and atmosphere that made Roma a Durban icon.

The food was sublime and the service real old school, however the new LED lighting is a bit harsh in places so reflects on the glass in the evening. A wonderful evening and great value.
