The Blue Room at Grub & Vine is our live music and cocktail lounge that pays homage to the soulful sounds of jazz and the blues. A collaborative venture between Grub & Vine's Chef Patron Matt Manning and well-known jazz artist Buddy Wells, the lounge also sports a state-of-the-art recording studio, where you'll catch musicians in action from time to time.

Located on the ground floor of 103 Bree Street, the Blue Room features a bespoke cocktail menu - with delicious concoctions such as the 'Ella Fizzgerald' (gin, lime, rhubarb, fennel and Brut MCC) and 'Muddy Waters' (Bourbon, dry sherry, vanilla maple and naartjie) - as well as a delectable selection of small plates for guests to nibble on.

The Blue Room is open for lunch from Monday - Friday, brunch on Saturdays and tapas and cocktails at night, while live performances from some of the country's top jazz, soul and blues artists will be a regular evening occurrence.

    It was not the best of experiences, I had made a reservation and paid the cover charge for the music. When we arrived, there was no table for us and the only table they could offer us was right at the entrance behind the bar and far away from the music. After insisting they decided to get an extra table from the store and squeezed it somewhere in between people in front having made us wait for more than 20 minutes, no apologies, no drinks offered while we are waiting just us standing there. Eventually the table was brought and we were seated on what looked like a walkway to other tables and on one side next to the band microphone – literally squeezed.... and with the table being an emergency set up and not assigned to any waiter or waitress it took another 10 to 15 minutes for someone to come and serve us.. the food eventually came almost an hour later but the table was not set up and we had to keep on asking for every single thing - salt, cutlery and even for service which was extremely slow... in the end we could not even have desert because it was almost 11 by the time we finished the main course... the bill then came and there was an additional R400 added as cover charge which I had already paid and told them that I had paid to secure the booking... again no apology whatsoever (my mind could not stop thinking about the minority element) considering that tables that arrived after us were being served food before us and we had ordered very simple food(and yes we were the only different patrons in the entire restaurant)...... this was the worst experience I have had in a long time and I am in the hospitality and service industry so I understand that things do go wrong at times but this was a series with no apology ... I cannot fault the band, they were absolutely fantastic... in fact if it wasn't for the band I think we would've definitely walked away, I would go back there for the music and ambience - not food nor service.

    The Blue Room is over sold yet provides and underwhelming experience. We seated in front of that curtain that shields the toilets, the moment I found that out I was disgusted. Your food is overpriced yet when it arrives it's warm and not hot. The empty table next to us had a cockroach crawling on it. There was nothing nice about the overall experience.

    Had the best evening! Hubby and I shared various bar snacks and we shared the ribeye steak. The steak, tacos, calamari and potatoes were delicious!!!! The service from Lisa and Ruth was exceptional. The ambience was spot on. Side note, the automated message around timing and ordering of food no longer applies. There is no need to arrive at 6pm, you can order throughout the performances. To get a great seat I suggest arriving at 6.30 even though the show only starts at 7.30.
