The Grill Jichana, located at Southern Sun Rosebank, boasts robust flavours of the African East Coast spice route complementing succulent cuts of meat, chicken and fish creating the essence of ‘eating good’ or Jichana in Swahili slang. The perfect venue for lunch, dinner or afternoon drinks soaking up the Rosebank view from the terrace.

Dishes are created with flair, flavoured with fragrant cassia, cardamom, turmeric and other heady spices and prepared using the freshest ingredients.

    The steak was the highlight, a bit salty but cooked to perfection and each bite melts like butter in your mouth. Fries were crispy but dry and the vegetable side was great. For starters we both had prawn gratin. Prawns were overcooked and they were a tad heavy-handed with the lemon in the sauce. Would have been a good dish otherwise because the flavors harmonized. For dessert I ordered a malva pudding with with custard. Easily the worst dessert I’ve been served. Felt like a rushed job, the custard was blobby and malva lacked the moist texture which they attempted to mask by pouring the hot custard over. Wasn’t a fan and a bitter way to end a good dinner. The portions were really generous and service satisfactory. I enjoyed the venue and ambiance.
