The Grill Jichana, located at Southern Sun Rosebank, boasts robust flavours of the African East Coast spice route complementing succulent cuts of meat, chicken and fish creating the essence of ‘eating good’ or Jichana in Swahili slang. The perfect venue for lunch, dinner or afternoon drinks soaking up the Rosebank view from the terrace.

Dishes are created with flair, flavoured with fragrant cassia, cardamom, turmeric and other heady spices and prepared using the freshest ingredients.

    Grill Jicana, Rosebank – Hospitality Shines, Flavors Falter Grill Jicana welcomed us warmly, beginning with a thoughtful reservation call and a gracious front‑of‑house team that set the tone for a birthday dinner. Drinks A Durbanville Shiraz unfolded with blackberry, plum, and pepper softened by oak — velvet on the palate, lingering and enveloping. A Castle Lite offered crisp refreshment, cutting neatly through the richness. Starters Lamb kebabs carried bold cumin, coriander, and chili, lifted by fiery peppadews, though dryness muted their promise. Beef carpaccio, dressed with tomato compote, parmesan, rocket, and truffle salt, was tender and refined, softly balanced. Mains Beef cheeks, slow‑braised in red wine, were meltingly tender with umami depth, paired with buttery but lumpy mash. The extra jollof rice disappointed — wet, overcooked, lacking the hallmark of separate, smoky grains. Duck roast and confit, however, soared: succulent breast and leg with Asian‑inspired noodles, soy‑ginger notes, and a fragrant cinnamon‑citrus jus created a symphony of textures. Desserts Chocolate mousse cake offered airy sponge but grainy mousse, reminiscent of packet pudding. Malva pudding redeemed the finale — warm, milk‑tart‑topped, nostalgic, and indulgent with caramel sauce. Coffee grounded the indulgence, followed by a birthday chocolate cake inscribed with “Happy Birthday,” moist and decadent, a gesture that transformed dinner into memory. Service The waitress was the quiet hero — attentive, patient, and professional, ensuring joy even when dishes faltered. Verdict Grill Jicana’s menu was a tapestry of highs and lows: duck confit and malva pudding shone, while lamb kebabs, mash, and jollof rice stumbled. Yet hospitality was unwavering, proving that warmth can triumph even when the kitchen falters.

    We had a very relaxing time and never felt rushed. We thoroughly enjoyed the drinks and food and highly recommend a visit. Service was good. Only issue was that once i placed my order i was later informed that the item was not available so i had to change to an alternative dish. The alternative was delicious and other than this small issue we had a very lovely tome and will be back.

    An exceptional experience… ! We will choose Jichana Rosebank as our celebration culinary destination in 2026. Pepper crusted Ostrich and Duck followed by Amarula Crème Brûlée our farewell meal to 2025! Just perfect! Thanks to Jacob for his concerted effort to make this a memorable occasion.

    Good day I would have loved to be notified of the Christmas menu before getting to the restaurant. My kids were under the impression that they could order from the main menu but to their disappointment they couldn’t.
