Tony's Spaghetti Grill

Booked at Tony’s because we had been there before on several occasions, but this was for my 58th birthday on Saturday. When enquiring if I could have risotto with my lamb shank, the waitress had to refer it the manager. My request was met with a rude short manager, who did not even introduce himself and who in my opinion is a poor excuse for a restauranteur and does not seem to know the first thing about customer care. His flippant remark that he did not know if I was going to pay for it when I told him I did not want the risotto for free and was willing to pay for it, bordered on racist, implying that I could possibly not afford it. His whole attitude and demeanour during our chat was unacceptable which my guests were privy to. He also did not seem to have any authority or at least gave the impression he did not, to make decisions. He was very hard and fast with his rule of me paying for two dishes at full price even though I just wanted the risotto as a side. I was willing to pay for the side rather than pay for a whole dish and waste the portion that I could not eat. My table was for 9 people and our bill which I paid was for almost R4300. It is because of customers like me that he even has a job. He really needs to watch his tone and answers when liaising with clients or if he does not know how to put clients first in the first moments of interaction then put him in the back office! Sadly my birthday lunch did not turn out as hoped and I settled for a lasagne that I really did not want, took three tablespoons and did not eat the rest. The waitress was way better with her service than he was. This has soured my experience of Tony’s and I will not willingly consider going back after this incident! I would rather spend my money where I am valued as the client like at the Sassy Italian or Cremalat.
