In 1968 the property was acquired by Historical Homes to be restored - later leased as a restaurant. During 2016 the Rupert family initiated a full restoration, today De Volkskombuis operates once again as a restaurant serving patrons within Stellenbosch.

    The bobotie was fantastic as always. We asked for extra banana ( as you tradionally eat it) and also it's only R10 as a extra on the menu. When the bill came, they charged us R60 for the extra banana I rarely ever complain, but joh... That's a rip off.

    Although the food was tasty and well prepared, the portions were small and very pricey. We were hoping for more options for “ boerekos” . Burgers and pizzas can be eaten everywhere but boerekos and volkskombuis should be non negotiable. The service and ambience was gret though

    I had international visitors and took them to De Volkskombuis for dinner. The venue was warm and welcoming, and we enjoyed good food and great service. I will definitely take my guests there again.
