In 1968 the property was acquired by Historical Homes to be restored - later leased as a restaurant. During 2016 the Rupert family initiated a full restoration, today De Volkskombuis operates once again as a restaurant serving patrons within Stellenbosch.

    We still like the place a lot and go there often but had quite a bad experience with the pork belly. It was overcooked, very dry with an extremely unpleasant and very salty sauce and a tiny piece of crackling. It was very disappointing. We will come again but definitely not order the pork belly!!
