We have made many visits to Lanzarec over the years to either stay over from our home here in Cape Town, for lunch or for the previously delightful afternoon tea. It was with much disappointment the six of us visited yesterday ( Saturday ) for afternoon tea. Whilst the location , ambience and the service was it's normal excellent self, we left very disappointed with the food selection and how it has changed so much to previous occasions. The sandwich selection has gone from the traditional finger sandwiches which were always delightful, and as I say traditional, to some sort of sandwich of different breads and as far away from traditional afternoon tea sandwiches as possible, and very much worst for it. If this policy made by either the head of food and beverage, or by the head chef, it is very much to the detriment of the afternoon tea offering by one of the finest hotels in Cape Town. If a hotel or restaurant is not going to offer a traditional afternoon tea along with tiered crockery for sandwich, scone or cake offerings, then the experience is poorer for it. As previously stated, however the selections are served, the sandwiches and the way they were cut and served yesterday were extremely disappointing. There are I believe still hotels such as the Mount Nelson & Palm house in Wynberg that serve a " traditional " Afternoon Tea, your Tea is now most definitely not. However, we love the Lanzerac hotel and very much hope it return's as previously, to the excellent afternoon tea offering as it used to be.

We stayed for 3 nights at The Lanzerac and used the Manor Kitchen for breakfast and dinner. The breakfast selection is very good, like especially that you can order from the menu and the remaining items on the buffet are more then enough. It starts from classical cerials and fruit up to sparkling wine and oysters. For dinner we had the tasting menu and a la carte. The tasting menu is from my perspective a must do, The food was stunning and the wine combinations and explanations were very nice. The a la carte menu has something for everybody and is as well on a very high quality. Due the outstanding experience we took all three dinners on propoerty.

A beautiful place always terribly let down by a kitchen that never fails to disappoint. Amazing to us that year after year nothing is done about it
