The Skotnes Restaurant is the culinary arm of the Norval Foundation. Named after legendary South African artist and teacher, Cecil Skotnes, the restaurant is naturally at home in the world of art. Overlooking the foundation’s serene wetland and innovative sculpture garden, the Skotnes seamlessly integrates nature and architecture. The menu pays homage to classical South African cuisine, whilst updating its flavours and distilling its ingredients to their simplest possible presentation. All ingredients are sourced from local, small-batch suppliers, with the intention of supporting and uplifting local communities. At the helm of the Skotnes is Executive Chef, Phil de Villiers. De Villiers previously led the Primal Eatery, which was named Eat Out’s Best Steakhouse of 2017.

Lovely food! Staff super helpful in these difficult times. All safety protocols were adhered to (menu on big board, constant hand sanitising, masks etc). We will be back x

Love Skotnes and my favourite waitress, though all service is very good and friendly. Missed not being able to visit for the last 4 months. Because I love it I am bothering to give feedback. I want you to be full as possible and I want you to recover. All people have/are suffering financial losses, coupled with being cautious about gatherings/outings - you have a task on your hands competing with all the restaurants. A big advantage over other restaurants is your aesthetically attractive building, lovely surrounding area, convenient location and parking, AND not many places offer a restaurant and a walk around the stunning indigenous gardens PLUS the Gallery (soon!). Your breakfast special at R55 is a good lure and was delicious. Felt the plate looked bare, bit of garnish would do the trick and a little pot of jam with the toast would make it seem less " skimpy". We KNOW you are economising and it IS a special BUT let it be artful. You will need more specials. Simple, tasty, affordable - for lunch as well. Else you will not get volumes of diners. All 3 my guests were interested in returning and bringing others until they saw the price of cakes and main courses. I do not recall hearing any music - would make the cavernous area feel less so during this time of restrictive numbers to have appropriate music playing softly. I ALWAYS sense a good vibe when i see a little succulent (cost effective) or single fresh flower/greenery on a table..encourages me to stay longer and may extend my visit to a 2nd cup of coffee . JUST as a matter of interest - try it with and without. You have few enough tables now to run a test without too much effort. The positive look and feel cannot be denied. Realise this could be a protocol issue though. Hope the feedback helps. Wish you only the best. Kind Regards BEV KNOTT TRAVEL CONNECTIONS 082 659 0957

The Skotnes is my very favourite place to be ... largely because of its incredible position overlooking the beautiful wetland sculpture garden, but also because of the delicious innovative menu and warm professional service. world-class spot. . thank goodness you've been able to open again. Everything of the best for the strange days still ahead. June and Guy Orsmond and our daughter Leigh Hershaw.
