We booked for the Afternoon tea and I was extremely disappointed at the offerings compared to what was mentioned and paid for on the Afternoon tea menu. The entire savoury option comprised white bread, with various fillings - there were no small pies, pretzels, vol au vent, rye bread as mentioned on the menu. On the sweet side there were no macaroons, white chocolate blondie, lemon meringue tart. We felt neglected by the staff as we were the only people having tea and had to wait very long for any service. We were each offered one tea variety, I would not call it a tea journey. For the price we paid per person I left feeling disappointed with the experience.

Everything was exceptional, the only complaint is the food brought out was not 100% the same as the food on the menu. The filling on the cucumber sandwich and egg mayo sandwich was minimal. But everything else was good

Service was good. The tea was the highlight of the experience. Food that was served tasted good, However there weren’t any outstanding sweet items ie a small piece of a Swiss roll, panna cotta. The rest of the items were basic ie two scones per person, banana bread sandwiches that could be made at home. From an Instagram influencer and professional guest menu taster the menu can be re-evaluated. High teas should include more extravagant and maybe some original items that could not just be easily purchased at a normal bakery. Nothing looked outstanding. The savoury was way more impressive than sweet but again it was sandwiches and a bagel, which can be bought anywhere else. As we arrived there were a group of hotel guests who were being shown a tour of the tea room and we had to wait outside for a few minutes for the lady to quickly try and mop up their wet footprints. As we started enjoying our tea a hotel guest walked in with her child that was dressed only their nappy and showed the child around the room while our high tea had already commenced. This was not impressive as we were told beforehand to keep noise levels down make sure not to disturb the guests. However hotel guests seem to not have any rules to adhere to and to respect that a high tea is commencing. We are also guests to this place which does not seem to be understood. The tea room has a sign that says ‘reservations only’ however hotel guests seem to be allowed to do as they please. If this is the case and only hotel guests are a priority Fairlawns should consider only allowing hotel guests to book for the high tea. Our tea stand on the table was dusty and we wiped the stand only to find a thick layer of dust on it. One of our teacups were chipped. In terms of cleanliness and health and safety it would be recommended that these be looked at more regularly. The aesthetics of the place is nice but overall I wouldn’t recommend that this high tea is worth the price in terms of value.

The waitress needs more training, the service was poor. The waitress was sulky, not smiling, acting as she was doing a favor. It was five of us, one of the girls was so disappointed, that she didn't leave the waitress tips. Four of us were kind and left her 10%, although she did not deserve even five %. When we asked her what smoothes are available for breakfast. She just answered: " I don't remember." This kind of level of "training, or lack of training is totally unacceptable for a five star establishment.
