The restaurant is decorated in an eclectic mix of old and new and has a warm inviting atmosphere. The sun drenched terrace with its vine draped pagodas, has spectacular views of the paddocks, vines and Table Mountain and is popular in summer. In winter a cozy fire and underfloor heating welcomes our guests.

The a la carte menu offers a mouthwatering selection. Indulge your senses with a hearty breakfast selection enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere. Champagne breakfasts are ever popular. The lunch menu, bursting with flavor, boasts specialties such as the duck with a piquant Van der Hum sauce, matured Fillet of Beef and Norwegian Salmon with a Dill and Cucumber diamond cream. We also cater for Vegan and Vegetarian diners.

Lighter options put emphasis on organic and local produce, where salads and quiches appeal to the health-conscious. Delectable desserts including a gluten-free bake of the day, will linger in the mind long after the meal especially if savoured with the farm’s 10-year pot stilled brandy or the Above Royalty Liqueur Wine.

Overall, the experience was good, however, we let our server know that our guest had a appointment elsewhere and the desserts took really long to be served. Seemed like a bit of tension between the kitchen and front of house.

As I reserved the booking days in advance, to be on the save side, (because you never know what the weather will be like in Cape Town) I booked an inside table. We were pleasantly surprised on our arrival when they gave us a choice where we would like to sit, inside or outside. As the weather was so amazing we sat outside. I'm a down-to-earth kind of girl, but definitely a "glass snob". With that said, I ordered a Gin cocktail, and it arrived in a beer glass. I asked the waitress to please bring me a Gin glass for my Gin cocktail. She came back with a Margarita in a Martini glass. I kept quiet and drank the Margarita. My husband ordered red wine and received a white wine glass. Please keep in mind there were other guests with the correct glassware all around us, and the waitress was no Nube. I had the Salmon Roses that was absolutely delicious, the only complaint was that it gets served with NO chopsticks and no small bowl for the soy sauce. The only way to eat it is with a knife and fork. The knife had a curled-up point in front, obviously the knife was dropped one time to many at one stage. Trying to cut with it, everything got stuck to the front curled point. Husband had the chicken livers; the flavors were good it just needed more sauce. For mains I had the delicious pork belly and hubby had a perfect steak. This time around we did ask for sharper knifes but were told that is all they have. Overall, the food was good, complements to the chef. But for the cutlery and crockery, Avontuur we do expect better.

OUR LUNCH AT AVONTUUR RETAURANT WAS MOST ENJOYABLE AS USUSAL. THE SERIVICE WAS EFFICIENT , THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS . MY KINGKLIP WAS PREPARED BEAUTIFULLY AND 4 OF OUR GUESTS WHO HAD THE PORK BELLY , THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THE DISH.. DESPITE THE RATHER UNPLEASANT WEATHER , THE AMBIENCE WAS COSY.
