    We were looking forward to our meal here but unfortunately we will not be back. The food and the service left much to be desired. I ordered grilled hake with garlic butter sauce and chips, and honestly, I could have had a better meal at a fish and chips shop. The fish was dry and tasteless and the chips were either over or undercooked with black spots on them. When I expressed my dissatisfaction to the waitress she said she would tell her manager. No-one approached us to apologise or make things right, and we were just left to sit at our table without anyone following up to ask us if we needed anything else. The other meal was reasonably good but drenched in sauce. They eventually reluctantly gave us half off the hake meal whilst they snickered behind our backs. How hard can it be to make a grilled piece of fish with a decent garlic butter sauce?

I’m truly sorry that your visit did not meet expectations—this is not the standard we aim to deliver, and I understand your frustration. Your feedback about the hake, chips, and overall quality is very concerning, and even more so the lack of follow-up after you raised the issue. You should never feel ignored when bringing a concern to our attention, and I sincerely apologize that your experience left you feeling this way. Regarding your comment about the meal being drenched in sauce, Beira Alta is known for its saucier dishes, which many of our guests enjoy. That said, some of our fish options—such as the hake, kingklip, line fish, and whole fish—are typically served less saucy unless requested otherwise. Our manager does recall visiting your table during the meal, where extra garlic butter was requested as the hake was mentioned to be dry. It was also noted that the concern about the meal not being up to standard was raised after the meal had been finished. We always encourage guests to let us know immediately if something isn’t right, as it allows us the opportunity to correct the dish or offer an alternative on the spot and ensure a better experience. We also understand that a comment was made after the meal that “I’m not going to pay for this.” While we always strive to be fair and accommodating, once a meal has been consumed, it is standard practice that it remains payable. That said, the 50% discount on the hake meal was applied as a genuine gesture of apology from our side. We take your comments about the service and how the situation was handled very seriously, as this does not reflect the level of professionalism and care we expect from our team.     Absolutely superb lunch. We ordered Mom's pan-fried prawns with tomato rice, chips and crispy dried polenta squares as our sides. From the starters to the dessert, everything was delicious!! Can't wait to go back
