    We had the most unbelievably immersive experience at Camps Bay Retreat. The botanical walk through the estate was an exceptional experience. On top of being absolutely exquisite, walking around the entire world-class property — Cape Town’s gem — and learning about the history of the hotel, the original home, and how it expanded to where it is now, we thoroughly enjoyed learning from an expert about the naturally growing flora of such a unique area. Brandon is a gifted expert in plants and botany, as well as a natural guide and storyteller. He made us feel part of the magical environment, educating us while leaving us in awe. From the creative vegetable garden lining the Padel courts and path to the hotel rooms, to the upcycled bonsai tree project, to the deep, dense forest, the bridges, swings and wooden paths, the original swimming pool that is now a natural pool and holds rainwater for the hotel, and the preservation and reconstitution of the original plants — every part of the walk was fascinating. There is such a deep respect for what naturally occurs in the area, alongside the creativity and brilliance that have gone into the care and stewardship of this extraordinary property over the years, ending with the highlight: the waterfall. Having visited and experienced the magic of the property before, I feel an even deeper level of admiration and awe for the decades of work, care and dedication that have gone into maintaining and evolving the natural heritage of such a special place. The botanical drink and scones were the cherry on top — sitting looking out at the ocean and soaking up the beauty and magnificence of this very special place.

    The food was amazing and we genuinely enjoyed celebrating our friend. However, the way we were treated by the host, Gemma, was extremely disappointing. Her energy was unwelcoming from the start, and even after we had finished our meal, she made us feel uncomfortable when we wanted to take a few pictures of ourselves. We had spent a significant amount of money at the restaurant, so to be treated that way was really disappointing. Great food, but unfortunately the hospitality did not match.
