Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776. Located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley, the farm’s name means “ravine of the Boekenhout” (pronounced Book-n-Howed). Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making.

In 1993 the farm and homestead was bought and restored and a new vineyard planting programme was established that now includes Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Semillon and Viognier.

The only thing that you guys must have is a store selling your wines inside your farm !! Congratulations because all was very good!

This is a seriously impressive wine farm. My party and I thoroughly enjoyed the wine tasting, so much so we went onto Invincible and purchased two cases of their premium wines and a magnum of their Porseleinberg.

Top quality experience all round. Pre-booking ensured a limited number of guests were in the party, and all seemed to have a significant level of interest in wine. The tasting was well led by one of the winemakers and included a tour of the interesting facilities, including the large barrel room. Wines tasted were all top-notch and included one older (2005) vintage cabernet sauvignon. Whole event was conducted at an unhurried pace. This must be one of the best, most enjoyable and highest quality wine tastings available in South Africa, a country which is at the top of the pile when it comes to giving friendly, good value and interesting wine tastings. That this tasting was completely free and that there was no pressure at all to buy wine (in fact, wine cannot be bought on the premises, only from a shop in the nearby town of Franschhoek) makes it all the more remarkable. It's hardly surprising that the limited number of places for the tasting are quickly snapped up online. Bravo, Boekenhoutskloof!

As fans of The Chocolate Block, we'd been wanting to visit Boekenhoutskloof for a while, and we weren't disappointed. The location is absolutely beautiful and the tasting room is very interesting. We had a cellar tour and saw the bottling process. Our host was very informative. The tasting itself was great - we had some fabulous wines! At Boekenhoutskloof it's all about the wine so don't go expecting shops or food.
