    Terrible experience. We came here for our last meal in South Africa after an amazing three-week holiday and it missed the mark on so many levels. Firstly, our first waiter seemed completely uninterested and checked out of looking after us - something we'd not experienced anywhere else on our holiday. Secondly, one of our steaks came out completely overcooked (despite us taking the waiter's recommendation on how to have it - medium-rare), we flagged this and it was replaced without question only to come out blue! We raised this again, they offered to recook the blue steak and what came out was still below par. An offer was then made for a new steak to be cooked which we begrudgingly accepted. The final steak came out and it still wasn't well cooked and by now the whole meal had been ruined. Finally, and what really topped things off was that the bill came out with the full amount charged, despite the kitchen not being able to cook one of our steaks and ruining the whole meal. When challenged, the manager on the night became patronising to my girlfriend and aggressive towards me. We reluctantly paid to save causing a scene but I would highly recommend avoiding this place in case you encounter the same experience we had that evening.

    We were disappointed in that we had advised and confirmed to the restaurant over a month in advance that one of us had a dairy and egg allergy. It was confirmed this would be added to our booking and they would ensure they could accommodate. When we got there for Christmas dinner there was a note on our booking but it hadn’t been passed to the chef. Starter was a burrata and they wouldn’t even do another option or remove the burrata so that was a no go. To be fair, the manager tried his best and was apologetic. The food itself was fantastic. Sadly, there was no desert my wife could have (which is one of the reasons I emailed a month in advance) but they made some sorbet. The meal was delicious, it was just a shame as we’d done everything we could in plenty of notice to tell them of an allergy. We’d travelled from the Uk and had been trying to book at Bovine for weeks. I would come back as the food was so good when we could get something.

    We reserved and prepaid the Christmas dinner. The food and the service were good, but unfortunately we were seated at the unattractive part of the restaurant (half empty and very windy) although we asked for a better table. More over there was a mandatory tip of 12,5% which was not communicated before. Overall it was too expensive. The price-performance ratio is not in line with the local conditions.

    My family and I had a great night for our son’s 26th Birthday celebration. AJ, our server, was very knowledgeable and really added to the experience.
