A LONG TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE.

During the American Civil War, a new breed of entrepreneur was born, the Cattle Barons. These immensely rich and powerful men, along with their cowboys moved millions of unattended Texan cattle vast distances across the Kansas plains to railheads for transport to market centres. This helped to generate income which stabilized the war-torn Texan economy. In the process, jerry-built cattle towns such as Abilene, Wichita & Dodge became infamous and the Cattle Barons became legends.

The Cattle Baron restaurant concept originated in 1987 in the heart of Bellville. Popular demand dictated the need to open more outlets and the many awards that have been won in the prestigious Steakhouse of the Year competition by various Cattle Baron branches over the past years bears testimony to our success story.

Great value, especially with 20% discount on Tuesday for steak (although check they apply the discount as they forgot on our bill!). We got the chateaubriand for two and was lovely, cooked exactly how we asked. Staff were very friendly and service was good, although a little slow at times. It was a fairly quiet night so lacked a bit of atmosphere as it's a big place. It was a bit echoey and you could hear the clanking from the kitchen. I'm sure there was some music on when we first arrived but that seemed to go off. Definitely need to keep some background music on. Would go back as we really enjoyed the steak.

The restaurant needs to relook the air flow and aircon units as the temperature was exceedingly warm and hvac / aircon was working only in certain areas.

When we arrived, we were handed a Valentine's Day menu and told we could only order from the set menu. so in the interest of ensuring that their focus is on just preparing the set menu items we went ahead and ordered the 2 course menu options. The waitron staff was very chaotic and all over the place but we eventually placed our orders. Our drinks arrived but was (for lack of a better word) slammed down on the table. We then waited about 45 minutes for our starter, of which the presentation was non-existent, again just slammed down . the food, when it eventually arrived was fine but my steak was mostly sinew and fat. Cut it away and started eating. it then took another 20 minutes , after i had to ask the waiter if it was on its way and when it got to our table, my husband was informed that "sorry, but the icecream had melted so we ended up with a piece of malva tart and ice cream that was spread all over the plate. NOt very appetising to say the least. In closing, absolutely no effort was made to make this a special evening and many other patrons around us vocalised their bad experience and some left . Needless to say, i won't be going back any time soon as after all of this, there was no manager that was available or even bothered to come and apologise and let their clearly over-worked and stressed out wait staff take the brunt of the poor service and delays in getting food served and tables cleared.:) so all in all a 1 star rating for the 14th February Valentine's Day from Cattle Baron Simonstown

I've enjoyed my experience here at cattle baron Simon's town. The only disadvantage that I've experienced was too little waitress/ waiters. Only 3 on a busy Sunday. We had to try to get the waitress attention for assistance. Please to owner and management, get more hands on deck. Your food made up for this hiccup. THANK you
