A LONG TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE.

During the American Civil War, a new breed of entrepreneur was born, the Cattle Barons. These immensely rich and powerful men, along with their cowboys moved millions of unattended Texan cattle vast distances across the Kansas plains to railheads for transport to market centres. This helped to generate income which stabilized the war-torn Texan economy. In the process, jerry-built cattle towns such as Abilene, Wichita & Dodge became infamous and the Cattle Barons became legends.

The Cattle Baron restaurant concept originated in 1987 in the heart of Bellville. Popular demand dictated the need to open more outlets and the many awards that have been won in the prestigious Steakhouse of the Year competition by various Cattle Baron branches over the past years bears testimony to our success story.

Went in with decent expectations, but the overall experience was disappointing. Service: We waited an excessively long time, almost one hour for the starters to arrive. Starters: Ordered the grilled halloumi, didn’t see any sign of a grill. It tasted like the seasoning was simply poured on top afterward. The Greek salad was very poor: no seasoning at all, onions roughly chopped, olives tasteless and extremely small. Especially disappointing considering the quality of olives available in South Africa. Mains: The piri piri sauce was forgotten and had to be asked for. When it arrived, it was cold and tasted like it came straight out of a supermarket dispenser. The standard vegetables (spinach and squash) were also poorly prepared, very rough and watery, lacking any real flavour. Overall, the food and service lacked care and basic attention to detail. Not what you’d expect from a steakhouse. Will not go back.

Unfortunately, our experience at Cattle Baron in Simon’s Town was disappointing. After being seated, we waited at least 45 minutes before having to request a waiter, which set the tone for the rest of the visit. The quality of the food was also below standard. The creamy spinach was extremely watery and bitter. We sent it back to the kitchen, only for it to return in an even worse state, making it inedible. Service continued to be an issue throughout the meal. I ordered a pot of tea and had to request milk three separate times before it was eventually brought to the table. Overall, the poor service and lack of attention to food quality made this visit very disappointing, especially for a restaurant with an established reputation.

The food took forever to arrive, and the steak was not done as requested. Drinks took even longer to arrive. Empty wine glass took 20 minutes or more to arrive while my drink was forgotten completely. Two meals weren't complete. At the end of our meal, we were offered comp drinks for the long wait for our drinks/food, these comp drinks took longer than our previous drinks. On top of that it was hot and humid, but the windows weren't able to open.

It is disappointing that the Cattle Baron has decided to limit its Burger special only to sauce burgers, previously there was a much bigger choice, I predict that his decision will have a long term effect on patron attendance who are visiting your restaurants for the specific purpose of enjoying the burger special, which now turns out to be "not so special"

Meat tops!! Sides tasty! Just lacks ambiance, maybe due to the size of the restaurant, but we will keep coming back.
