    The occasion was my wife’s birthday and we invited our children and spouses etc to join us at one of our favourite restaurants.The exact wording of my booking read as follows: “Hi, an inside table for the 7 of us, 6pm on Tuesday….. Thanks and Regards. I received the following reply: “Thank you for your booking we confirm” Upon arrival, we were presented with an outside table and that was the start of an unpleasant experience. We had to inform the maitre'd that I had specifically booked an inside table. After a lot of them juggling the seating plan we eventually were seated inside and Eugene became our waiter. Eugene was very aloof in a negative manner and it felt like I had to be extra nice towards him whereas the opposite should have been the case. I got the feeling that he was purposely being that way because of the mix up with the booking. When it was time, Eugene asked us for our order and we had to ask him for the menus. We knew there was a special on steaks but there is also fine print to that and there was no explanation of the specials for the evening. A classic example was that I just happened to notice that there was a special on beers after we had consumed a few - had we known, we would have opted for those on special as we are not particular to a specific brand. Why weren’t we informed when we were discussing with Eugene as to which beer we should order? We had to ask other waiters on 3 occasions to call Eugene to our table. Eugene also chose to lean over others instead of walking around when presenting and removing plates - perhaps this is something that should be taught to all the waiters? Overall the food was good as usual and Eugene received his tip, whereas we felt robbed out of a good experience with our family.

    Dear Trevor Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. I am truly sorry for the disappointing experience you and your family had when celebrating your wife’s birthday with us. What you describe is not reflective of the standards we uphold, and I am deeply concerned to hear how poorly you were treated — especially on such a special occasion. I have personally reviewed the camera footage and can confirm that your concerns are justified. Eugene’s service and conduct on the evening were unacceptable and far below our expectations. Appropriate action has been taken to ensure this does not happen again. I also sincerely apologise for the mix-up with your table. Your booking clearly indicated an inside table, and this should have been honoured. I have addressed this matter with my manager to ensure that bookings are always followed according to the client’s specifications and requests. While I know I cannot undo a spoilt birthday or the disappointment you and your wife felt, I would like to offer you a voucher of R500 as a sincere gesture of apology and to hopefully give us the opportunity to restore your trust in our restaurant.

    We had the garlic snails and chicken wings as starters followed by the belly ribs for mains. Everything was prepared perfectly and was totally delicious.
