Welcome to The Mother City's newest chapter of restaurant culinary excellence.

Owners and Chefs, Eloise Martin & Jason Labuschagne, both came from humble beginnings but had bold and brave dreams to one day own their own modern, casual and multi-cultural dining experience right in the heart of Cape Town's food district. But little did they know that finding employment at a local wine farm is where they would meet and their life's journey was set in stone.

Eloise, who entrenched herself within the food and wine industry fresh out of high school, found herself interning at De Grendel Wine Farm located within the Durbanville Wine Valley on the outskirts of Cape Town working alongside Jason and Brandon Erasmus. Upon completing her final year at CTIA Culinary School, Eloise became the Head Pastry Chef at Bloemendal Wine Farm, also located within the Durbanville Wine Valley.

Jason, who fell in love with the fast-paced adrenaline rush of a kitchen at an early age, found himself working under Chef Garth David at De Grendel Wine Farm. A couple of years later, Jason was offered to be part of the team to launch the now-iconic Ritz Hotel along the Atlantic Seaboard in Cape Town.

In 2019, Eloise & Jason decided to take the plunge and together launched their first food venture called Chef on Call, a business dedicated to catering events both on and off-sites. And in 2020 bought Café Paparazzi located along the famous St. Georges Mall strip.

Fast forward to 2021 and here we are ~ A new start, a new beginning, a new chapter that starts at Chapter One and we welcome you to be a part of this journey.

I was actually just trying to work out if I could whatsapp you re our experience! The food was yummy and the staff pleasant. Unfortunately the portion sizes were TINY. One friend had 3 main dishes (which all cost a lot for the size) and was still hungry. He paid R680 and still was hungry. We all left saying we will have to eat a meal at home as we were still so hungry.

Great to be welcomed by chef / co-owner Jason. Attentive service, excellent food (we had the sirloin, the duck and the beet salad) and an especially sublime dessert (eat & mess). Marred only by the unavailability of preferred wine (cocktails more than made up) and one of our chosen dishes. Early dinner before a show, so not much of a vibe but through no fault of the restaurant ... would definitely go again. Thank you!

Fabulous food!!! There was only our table and one other table, I think people get put off by the lack of customers… but ignore that and stay for the food! It is great!

One hour to get our drinks and then got them wrong. One hour till they came to get our order and then another to get our food. Only got food after we were forced to go directly to the kitchen. Zero atmosphere. Disappointing birthday celebration. Unapologetic and argumentative front of house.

Don’t be alarmed by the décor when you enter, this intonate little gem of a restaurant will take you be surprise with each dish you order. We did all starters and all mains in a share with four option. It was all so well balanced and flavorful. The staff is super friendly. Fine dinning without the stock up atmosphere. We loved it!

Food was absolutely delicious, and so flavourful. Our cocktails was very delicous, i would highly recommend the strawberry mojito. Staff is friendly and overall it was a great experience. I highly recommend to put Chapter One on your bucket list.

The food was good, but let down by the total lack of any attention to detail with service, ambiance etc. what a pity
