We chose Chefs Warehouse for our date night, drawn by its reputation and our shared love of food. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet our expectations. The restaurant required a R200 per person reservation fee, which created the impression that we were in for something truly special. Sadly, the food and service did not live up to that promise. The main courses were disappointing. I ordered the duck at around R365, and my partner had the lamb at approximately R300. Both dishes consisted of just two small pieces of meat. While the lamb was more flavourful, neither dish justified the price. The duck, in particular, was bland and lacked depth. For dessert, we shared the mascarpone, figs, and pistachios, which cost around R160. What we received was a small serving of ice cream, which was not mentioned on the menu. It was bland as well and felt like an afterthought rather than a satisfying end to the meal. Service also detracted from the experience. Our waiter repeatedly reached between us to serve dishes and place items on the table, even after we had tried to move things aside. It felt intrusive and broke the flow of our conversation. Overall, the high prices, reservation fee, and lack of flavor left us feeling disappointed. We did not feel we received real value for money. There are many excellent restaurants in Cape Town that offer far better food and overall experience. Unfortunately, Chefs Warehouse is not one of them. We will not be returning.

Just WOW! We had the most incredible meal! We ended up doing the Feast option at Merchant Bar and Grill upstairs. It is described as a 5 course tasting menu featuring the best of South African produce. But it must surely have been at least 15 courses in reality. The food keeps on coming and every dish was honestly outstanding. What I loved most was that there is no fussing and pointing and pouring and sermon-ing at the table. The dishes are brought out in 5 stages. And you are left in peace to dish up yourself and eat at your own pace. I am a bit sketchy on detail. I should have taken photos of the menu and dishes I guess. Also I am so glad I didn't. I was in the moment and carried away, which is a beautiful place to be. So we started with bread, house-cured charcuterie, pickles, paté's. And pork crackling people! Next a kazillion small plates ... mussels, local line fish crudo, springbok, vetkoek vibe for dipping, gorgeous veg something. Think the lamb belly and potato fondant was here as well. I am not even going to pretend I remember everything that came next. I had eaten so much at this stage, I honestly thought we were done . But then the mains started arriving. Beautiful rib-eye with café de Paris butter and their signature sauce, beef dripping potatoes, broccoli with stunning local cheese, fresh green salad. And to finish it off a chocolate ganache dessert served with goat's cheese thingy. The price is below R1 000 which is close to half of the price you will pay for this quality ‘fine dining' at any of our other restaurants of the same calibre. Will soooo be back.

The food was incredible and such good value. The service was great! This was a recommendation from a friend and we would definitely recommend this to our friends should they ever visit Cape Town.

Having been to the counterpart Chefs Warehouse in Beau Constantia last last year. This experience was disappointing for the price paid. The entire evening felt rushed and whisked around, the plates coming out two at a time resulted in one being eaten room temperature and the other cold, more often than not the meat dish was left to chill. Part of the Hake dish there was 2 hake bones in the fish, which at this level of dining should be inexcusable. The food didn’t feel like it had the punch of other restaurants of a similar price range and both diners agreed a nice steak at Hussar Grill would have been a better evening. The waitress was amazing however seemed not to have tasted all the cocktails and could only speak to those she had tried. When the food was brought to the table the dish was explained in a very rushed manner. The table next to us interrupted at one point to ask about the cocktails we got as they couldn’t find one on the menu which sounded appealing to them. The cocktails were enjoyable. Overall I would not Recommend this place to someone expecting a chefs warehouse experience.

Loved the spices and seasoning. The waiter forgot about my drinks until the second course and I had to remind him. The waiter filled out water glasses with the water bottle from the table next to us. Although the ambiance was very romantic, the tables were so close to the neighbors table, it felt like we were eating with them.
