Lunch was a failure and we had to go to another restaurant. You can't allow a reservation on Dineplan for 1:30pm for lunch and then when we arrive tell us that the kitchen closes at 2pm

Although we booked 5 days in advance the cake selection was very limited and not appealing. We decided on croissants which was ok but not what we were planning on having. As we left the cake display was suddenly filled with a whole batch of new cakes which was very appealing but we were not informed earlier that there was fresh stock on its way. A pity as we were really looking foward to the coco safar experience but were greatly disappointed. Nothing was special this place. The waiter was however very friendly. Maybe we just visited the wrong time

This was our first time at a Coco Safar. Unfortunately taxi strikes affected the service, however the manager stepped in and did his utmost to ensure everyone was looked after. The menu was limited, due to their being only one chef on duty, so again this impacted our experience - but we all totally understood considering the situation. One disappointment was the 4 coffees that were ordered were luke warm/borderline cold and were served spilt on the wooden boards. Other tables received coffee on a board with water and a small madelaine (i think) while we all just received only the coffee - so not sure if they had ordered something special or different. Even with the second round of coffees we ordered we did not receive what I assume is the full coffee service. The croissants looks fantastic - will have to go back for those.

Short version: Our family wanted to do something special for Mother's Day and thought a luxurious brunch would do the trick. We booked well in advance to ensure that we get a good table. Upon arrival, I was made to feel like an idiot by the staff who looked at me like I'm crazy for having a reservation since Coco Safar "doesn't do reservations". We were promised a better table later but this was never delivered. It took ages to place our orders since the wait staff ignored our section of the restaurant. Food was edible but nothing to write home about. The restaurant was out of stock of their world-renowned croissants, this on one of the most popular holidays of the year. Long version: I called four weeks in advance to secure a booking. There is a reservation option on the website but only allows reservations for 2 at 16:00 in the afternoon, which is why I called to make a reservation. It seems Coco Safar does not want to take reservations and there is a solution to this issue: don't make it an option on your website and tell people you don't take reservations if they call to make a reservation. I had to call three times before they got the date and number of guests right. When we arrived, the staff told me they don't take reservations. I showed the manager my confirmation of reservation, after which a table was cleared for us in the "lounge" (a patio separated from the main restaurant by a passage that leads to a shopping centre). It was windy and unpleasant. We were told we'd be moved to the main restaurant as soon as a table becomes available. This never happened and we spent several cold hours outside. When the second half of our party arrived, they waited at least 15 minutes before their drink orders were taken. We were there for 45 minutes before our food orders were taken. The waiters did not seem particularly interested in serving customers in the lounge. The food was enjoyable, albeit somewhat overpriced at R115 for an omelette. We were looking forward to exploring the range of croissants but were disappointed in finding only seven croissants in two varieties available. Selecting croissants from the window was uncomfortable since a table was standing in front of the display, so one had to lean over patrons busy with a meal to see what was on offer. I have been to the Waterfront branch where service also left much to be desired, but I chalked it up to it being a new branch. However, after the experience at St John's Piazza, I believe bad customer service is a common issue at Coco Safar. I don't see myself going back.
