My first visit to COY and it will certainly not be the last. One of my very best dining experiences in Cape Town. From the moment I arrived until the farewell, everything was not just perfect but exceptionally memorable. The welcome greeting by the charming and knowledgeable Jemma set the tone for what was to be a wonderful lunch. Stylish décor and furnishing and lovely views of the Waterfront made for a enjoyable and relaxing space. Interesting menus and a great wine list. Service by all the staff was not only very friendly but charming, appropriately attentive and caring but also professional. The Winter special lunch of three courses plus snacks and bread course is great value at R490. I started with a glass of Constantia Uitzig XII Mensis MCC (R145) and two ‘snacks’ of oyster mushroom and choux pastry stuffed with smoked fish both were absolutely delicious. This was followed by the bread course of piping hot Fermented Amadumbe Sourdough, kefir, konfyt and Bokkom with delicious butter. The first course (served cold) of Mussels, fennel, citrus, pine nuts, baharat was exceptional in its unexpected depth and balance of flavours. I had chosen a glass of Albarinho, but was offered a glass of Thorne and Daughters Tin Soldier Semillion which was a much better match for the intensity of the dish, and I certainly recommend choosing this wine. The main course was equally excellent, Lamb, Spinach, Butternut, Skopo Jus, Pap and a slow cooked lamb Potjie served on the side. Beautiful presentation and wonderful flavours which I accompanied with a glass of Mitres Edge Sholto red blend (R190). The dessert was a light almond sponge with blood orange and amasi and I ended with a good double espresso. My words cannot adequately express the utmost satisfaction and enjoyment I experienced at this highly recommended restaurant.
