Creation’s new-look Tasting Room has introduced bright pops of colour with glass sculptures, complementing the all-encompassing views of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Local, of course. Sleek wooden tables and sheepskin-covered chair seats in winter add to the welcoming ambience indoors. Here, every season is given equal emphasis with a sensory food-and-wine pairing menu crafted to stage the regional bounty.

The vine leads the way, with six courses conceptualised to make the wine shine. The Ayurvedic ethos ensures that tasters and diners leave with a lightness of being. The focus on wellness ensures that, from the amuse bouche, your blood sugars are kept steady. Ingredients are not overworked; simple ingredients eloquently combined, like tofu, sesame seeds, and ginger, are fried to create a delectable crust. Chef Eleanor Niehaus leads a unified kitchen brigade, many of whom hold wine qualifications and are sent to Europe for constant exposure and
upskilling. Every team member is obviously passionate about the place, produce, and their role.

Attention to detail is sublime. Note the pottery plate pressed with a Pinot Noir vine leaf, the silk scarf presented for you to touch, a feather, and even a shell to hold to your ear – it’s all part of a multi-course odyssey that engages every sense, a testament to co-owner Carolyn Martin’s sixth sense. There is something for everyone, from breakfast and a kid’s menu to charcuterie and cheese platters. It’s unofficially the gastronomic ambassador of the Overberg and Cape Floral Kingdom, simply heaven on a plate.

    We visited Creation for the Autumn Harvest tasting menu with the Art of Creation pairing and had a very well-rounded experience. The menu is thoughtfully structured and each course is expertly executed, with a clear sense of seasonality and balance. The wine pairings are considered and work seamlessly with the dishes. My son ordered from the à la carte selection — the gratitude taco, beef fillet and apple cake. The fillet was the standout for him: perfectly cooked and full of flavour. For me, choosing a standout is almost impossible, but the smoked yellowtail was a revelation. Service was personal, informative and accommodating, and the overall pace of the meal felt well managed. Thank you to Jay Lee and Artwell! We ended with dessert in the garden, surrounded by Nanette Ranger’s sculptures and in perfect autumn weather. Overall, a wonderful experience, consistent with Creation’s reputation.

    We had a great experience at Creation Wines - Maryka who took us through the food and wine pairing experience was lovely. She knew her stuff and made the whole experience memorable. The food was fantastic.

    We try to visit Creation once a year on one of our trips to SA as we enjoy the Creation wine and its is a iconic farm however the menu hasn’t changed for a few years now. Its really lost its wow factor. Hopefully they will revive the menu and attract loyal customers back. Many friends are sharing the same opinion which is really unfortunate as it’s such a stunning setting.
