May 2025 marks the beginning of a new era for award-winning boutique hotel Ellerman House, with the opening of an innovative culinary destination – CURATE – in the striking Wine Gallery space. Just as wine is uniquely expressive of its terroir, conveying a sense of place in every glass, so CURATE will tell the story of South Africa’s soil and sea, transporting diners on an unforgettable culinary adventure.
Helmed by Ellerman House Head Chef Kieran Whyte, the culinary experience at CURATE – which will welcome 30 guests per seating – will be intrinsically linked to the seasonal produce sourced from Whyte’s hand-picked selection of small-scale farmers, fishers and producers. With Whyte’s focus on championing hyper-seasonal local produce, the menu at CURATE will be wholly informed by the ethos of allowing the ingredients to shine, telling a story of people and place on every plate.
CURATE will open with an eight-course degustation menu, drawing on the traditions and flavours of the region to offer an entirely unique dining experience. Bespoke handmade crockery, ceramics and knives from selected local artisans further enhance the creative expression of the Cape’s rich culinary heritage. Each course will be meticulously paired with South African wines selected from the 10 000-bottle Ellerman House wine cellar.
In transforming the space from the current Wine Gallery to CURATE, Ellerman House has once again partnered with renowned artist and sculptor Angus Taylor to shape the creative expression of CURATE. Reinforcing the notion of curation, craft and refinement, Taylor infuses the reimagined dining space with textural elements both raw and refined, further exploring the intersection of terroir across the worlds of wine and gastronomy.
