Perfection, pure and simple. If you’re after exceptional food paired with equally impressive service, this spot delivers on every level. Standout dishes included the Korean fried cauliflower with sweet soy, the kingklip and prawn red curry served with coconut jasmine rice, and a beautifully balanced preserved lemon risotto with peas and burnt butter. Dessert was the perfect finale — rich chocolate ganache with pecan nuts and Oreos, alongside a sea salt caramel crème brûlée that was nothing short of indulgent. We left happily defeated… and very much in a food coma.

Wir sind im Urlaub in Stellenbosch. Haben ein Abendessen in der Eetkammer genossen. Kleines, feines Lokal, herrliches Ambiente und dazu noch ausgezeichnetes Essen und Wein. Nur zu empfehlen!!

Eating at De Eetkamer is a special experience. The room is beautiful in the understated way of old Cape Dutch buildings. It was almost full and quite festive on a Tuesday at lunchtime. We ordered 2 small plates each plus the Japanese milk bun (though R120 for a warm bread roll pushes the limits no matter how delicious). I enjoyed the kingklip and prawn red curry, though it was more like a soup. The lemon risotto was also very runny, swimming in butter, though the flavour was wonderful and intense. My lunch date thoroughly enjoyed the roast butternut, a very generous portion, and 2 pork satays. My flat white was too milky and not hot enough but the service was outstanding and the overall experience was good even if the food was a bit disappointing compared to previous visits.

Food was nice but not wow compared to other similar restaurants serving small plates. Service was very disappointing and there was no effort to make us feel welcome.
