The Evening started good, but once we had the firdt complaint regarding the sorbet, service started to get bad and towards the end basically didn´t exist anymore. One of my worst experiences in a fine dining restaurant !

de Tafel responded on Thu 12 Mar 26:
Dear Joerg, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your recent visit to De Tafel. We are naturally very concerned to read about your experience, particularly as the level of service you describe is not consistent with the feedback we regularly receive from our guests, including those who dined with us on the same evening. Our team works hard to ensure that every guest receives attentive, professional service and an experience that exceeds expectations, which is why your comments are both surprising and disappointing to read. We understand that you raised a concern regarding the sorbet course, and we regret if the way this was handled gave you the impression that the service declined afterwards. That is certainly not the standard we aim to deliver, and it does not reflect the level of hospitality that De Tafel is known for. Please be assured that we will review the details of your visit with the team to better understand what may have occurred, as experiences such as the one you describe are not reflective of our usual standards. We appreciate you bringing this to my attention. Kind regards, Gregory Henderson

Dear Mister Henderson, if you were the person who called me two days ago, you were also part of the bad experience. You yourself stood at our table after you served food, even though my wife went to the restroom. After a minute you left without a word to stand at the neighbouring table. When my wife returned the suck was cold and the gratin already was served cold. After our complaints our table basically was without service. We poured the ordered water ourselves an the waiter who told us several times, she is not an octupus and only has 2 arms took about 10 minutes to clean the last emty plate after every course. Sadly you didn´t even offer a complementary espresso or something else to make up. Anyway have a good day and we hope that all stays well !

A really delightful experience. Highly recommended if you enjoy fine dining. The historic building and newly decorated interior are beautiful. All staff were knowledgeable and professional. The food was amazing and gave us plenty to ooh and ahh over. Not cheap, but excellent value compared to other places that serve a similar top standard. We were very impressed and will be back.

I enjoyed the detail and artistic style reminiscent of fine dining in the early 2000’s

An exceptional evening at Palm House in Wynberg, Cape Town. Dinner at De Tafel was a masterclass in precision and restraint. Chef Craig Henderson’s menu reflects deep respect for heritage, seasonality and indigenous ingredients. Every detail felt intentional. Special thanks to Dane, Nathan and Richard for their attentive and polished service, a true reflection of refined hospitality. A seamless and memorable experience. Kind regards Joy

Our evening in De Tafel with the Elemental series menu was superb. Frpm the moment we arrived to when we left it was just such a wonderful experience. Good food beautifully presented and tastes were off the chart. Wine selection was so well balanced. Ambience was so nice. Service was top notch. Can't wait to go back
