In December 2004, owner Niel du Bois followed his heart, gave his creative spirit free reins, took the plunge and did what many people only dream about – opening an open air restaurant literally on a beach. Where the best seafood is prepared and enjoyed in Spartan surroundings – just like on the West Coast.

The first De Vette Mossel Beach Seafood Restaurant was born. On an isolated and pristine beach at Groot Brak River near Mossel Bay.

Thanks to the continuous support by our newly found Mossel friends, De Vette Mossel grew and grew. At De Vette Mossel your hosts are local Hermanus residents, Gustave and Charne du Bois. They grew up with De Vette Mossel and love the sea and all it has to offer, as well as hosting guests.

    Had a lovely time (again) at the Vette Mossel Hermanus. We had issues with an extra guest that cancelled, and staff were very helpful sorting this out. Food and ambience were amazing and kids (and us adults) loved the whole experience!

    Best experience we've had regarding food in Cape Town so far! Food, mood and play area for kids all made it such a memorable experience. Definitely one of our core memories this holiday.
