Gourmet Guide™ Description

At Delaire Graff Estate, the art of hospitality and culinary excellence is exemplified in the luxury lodges, spa, and both of its restaurants. In summer, bask in dappled sunshine on the terrace while taking in dramatic wineland views and prestigious wines. In winter, take time indoors to better appreciate the art and décor inspired by William Kentridge.

The menu is small but carefully considered, reflecting the estate’s bounty and South Africa’s indigenous produce such as spekboom, waterblommetjies, Karoo lamb, and venison. Expect a light touch with gallant ingredients, like the cappelletti, where subtle wild garlic and gossamer-thin pasta go hand-in-hand. The calamari and waterblommetjie starter is a delicate duo, gently enhanced by the pop of fresh peas. Main dishes, like the lamb, are abundant. Chef Clinton Jacobs infuses his love of unexpected textures into every aspect of the menu, with his chocolate chip cookie featuring a crisp of sushi rice as a prime example of how to make a sweet statement. The mindful, discreet waiting team is always ready to advise on which estate wine will best complement your meal.

Excellent food and experience as usual, which has now become eye watering expensive. It seems they are now exclusively catering for the euro.

    I. thought that for the elevated prices the food was mediocre..The position of the table away from the edge was also disappointing, for a table booked more than 2 months ago. Lots of staff asking how our day was going, but we would have preferred crisp service from one person from the start. Overall I felt it a much lesser experience than on previous occasions

Reserve the table real early like always, and they always give us the worst table. That’s the reason we don’t come anymore.

The property itself is absolutely stunning – immaculately maintained, aesthetically unique, and truly special. Unfortunately, the restaurant did not quite live up to the high standard set by its surroundings. Please consider the following comments as constructive feedback. Starting with the starter: the springbok carpaccio was garnished with hard, tasteless potato strips. If a crunchy element is intended, alternatives such as nuts or other flavourful components could work much better. For the main course, we had crayfish, which unfortunately was overwhelmed by a sauce that strongly resembled a ready-made cocktail sauce, masking the delicate flavour of the seafood. We also noticed that while there was a large number of staff present, the service appeared uncoordinated. Plates could not be clearly assigned to the individual guests. When the manager came by to ask for feedback, this placed the group in an awkward position, as such issues are difficult to address openly at the table. Finally, when we asked for just a single scoop of pistachio ice cream for dessert, the kitchen had to be consulted, and we were informed that the full dessert would be charged regardless. This felt inflexible and out of keeping with the otherwise refined setting. We truly believe that the dining experience could be significantly improved to match the beauty and quality of this remarkable place
