Taking its name from the address on the historic town’s main road of Huguenot Street, Eleven offers global contemporary cuisine inspired by big themes. Here, in a chic, relaxed setting, industrial design employing wood, raw brick and burnt copper melds with the finesse of delicate flavours and extraordinary wines.

This gem of a restaurant in Franschhoek was recommended to us by winemaker David Nieuwoudt of Cederberg Wines. Thank you David! We so enjoyed our meal and the ambiance at Eleven last weekend that we have booked a table for next Sunday to celebrate our wedding anniversary! Chef Scott and his Team produced delicious dishes and the wine pairing recommendations were perfect.

There in winter, lovely setting with a wood fireplace (although the main door was cracked open to provide a draft for the fire) 3 little additional tastings between servings, a delicious amuse-bouche of tender biltong, fresh olives and tapenade; a lime granite after the main course; and 3 little sweet bites after dessert The appetizers - a tomato soup with caramel (!) and a tuna carpaccio - were original and outstanding. The mains - a seabass perfectly cooked and a slightly overcooked pulled beef cheek shaped in a medallion - didn’t have quite the right sauces, the seabass sauce was too thick for the delicate fish, and the beef jus too salty for the meat. The deconstructed Eton mess was a nice finish to a lovely evening. The wines by the glass were outstanding and the maitre’d did not hesitate to replace a bottle that had been opened a bit too long. Service was attentive without being precious.

Unfortunately, our experience at Eleven was quite disappointing. My husband specifically requested that his tomato soup be made without any pepper due to health reasons. Despite this, the dish arrived full of pepper. When we brought it up with the waiter, he went to speak to the chef and returned confidently insisting that there was no pepper, just the taste of blended tomato. Frankly, we both know the distinct taste of pepper, and instead of taking responsibility, the explanation felt dismissive and untruthful. A sincere acknowledgment and apology would have been far more appropriate. To make matters worse, my husband had ordered the beef cheek as his main course but was served beef brisket instead, with no prior notice or explanation. While the ambiance and concept of the restaurant were lovely, the handling of our concerns and the lack of accountability in service unfortunately overshadowed the experience.

Portions especially the Sea Bass and Brisket are very small for what you charge. People are still hungry after the portion size. Setting is nice but not that warm. Some nice background music would be nice

What a great experience! From the welcome at the door, to the lovely waiter, to the manager (or owner?) checking in - amazing hospitality. The food 10/10. Before our order arrived, we were given a tasty Amuse-bouche. We then had the Pan seared yellowtale, braised beef brisket both with the most delicious hassleback potatoes and Eton mess for dessert. Plenty of drinks to choose from but I would highly recommend the Lemongrass French 75. It was worth the morning trip from Cape Town and we will be back!
