We had the high tea at Room 32 for my friend’s birthday, and the whole experience was immaculate from start to finish. The three-course experience began with an assortment of beautifully crafted savory bites. My favorite had to be the chicken liver pâté. Every bite was a journey, from the creaminess of the pâté to the acidity of the pomegranate, followed by the delicate crunch of the pastry it was encased in. I loved how distinctly each flavor came through without overwhelming the others. It was easily my favorite bite of the day. The savory course was followed by an assortment of sweets and dainties, and every piece was delicious. Despite the delicate, bite-sized portions, there was so much food that we actually couldn’t finish everything. Each course was paired with a tea of our choice, and the staff took the time to explain the different selections and guide us through them. The service was exceptional. The waiters checked in at just the right moments, the managers were warm and gracious, and the chefs came out to explain each bite and answer our questions. They also surprised my friend with a birthday surprise, which we had not expected and which made the occasion even more special. The setting was equally beautiful. From the gardens and landscaping to the hotel architecture and restaurant interior, everything was thoughtfully designed. As the sun set, the lighting created a beautiful, moody atmosphere, and when we got cold, blankets were brought out for us. Overall, this was so much more than a high tea. The food, teas, service, setting, and attention to detail came together to create a truly special experience. It was the perfect way to celebrate my friend’s birthday, and I loved every bit of it.

First impressions were solid – the security guys at the gate were friendly, and the place is gorgeous. Like, really pretty. You feel fancy just walking in. But then... the service happened. It was sloooow. And honestly, a bit clueless. We sat there for almost 20 minutes before our "welcome drink" showed up, and no one even told us what it was. Just plonked it down and left. And the food? It comes in this closed box thing. I get they're trying to be different, but it's just annoying – you can't see what you're getting, and it takes away all the fun of a classic high tea spread. The taste was hit-or-miss. A couple of things were nice, the rest was just... meh. If you've never done high tea before, this is fine – a decent first try. But if you know what a good high tea should be? This ain't it. Especially not for a Park Hyatt. Pretty room, average food, forgettable service. Not terrible, but definitely not worth the hype.

Visited Park Hyatt Johannesburg for high tea and left disappointed. Getting through the gate was harder than it should've been — the guards held up my car while checking availability, which felt unwelcoming for a Park Hyatt. Once inside, the empty dining room made me question why I'd been told they were "squeezing me in." The real issue was food safety. I disclosed a red meat and pork allergy up front, but was served arancini containing beef. I only found out after eating half of it, and spent the rest of the day feeling sick. The replacement dish arrived with a frozen center, and a promised mocktail never showed up. Despite all this, I was still charged the full R1000. This fell well short of what I'd expect from the Park Hyatt brand. Hoping management addresses the communication gaps between kitchen and service staff.
