The Diack Family Farm, Brightside is based in the foothill of the ancient Magaliesberg Mountain Range.

Blessed with rich, fertile soil the farm produces virtually all in-season vegetables used by il Contadino. Only organic(no poisons/inorganic fertilizers) methods are used to grow our vegetables. We are working towards using our seed, leaving a small portion of each crop to go to seed.

The farm also Provides free-range chickens, ducks, eggs, acorn-fed pigs, wild boar, grass-fed Suffolk Lamb, and Dexter beef. The plates of delicious food in the restaurant are decorated with beautiful flowers harvested in the garden.

The farm is a perfect circle in as much as all the manure from the animals is used in the garden and the composted cuttings. The egg shells and edible waste from the restaurant are put back into the soil and fed to the pigs. Even empty milk bottles adorn the soft fruit trees filled with natural bug lures to safeguard our fruit. The farm kitchens produce chutneys, jellies, some cheeses, and charcuterie products. Brightside is a magical, happy place with all manner of livestock foraging all over the place, staff working with a song on their lips, and of course the remarkable gardens.

We've been meaning to make a visit for years and just never got around to it. Wow! What a great experience! Staff are amazing (super friendly and accommodating towards our 16 month old daughter.), food was excellent too! Will be back very soon.

Lovely ambience. Great staff. Only minus point was my husbands carbonara. Not very well executed unfortunately. Will be back though and recommend to other diners.

il Contadino is the perfect place to go to when you're looking for great food and delicious cocktails. It really is a place with a great ambiance, perfect if you're wanting to sit and have a conversation with the people you're sharing a meal with. For starters, we had the bone marrow and the carpaccio which were both well prepared. Mains were the pork chops and pork belly. The chops were beautifully cooked and the sides complimented the protein, and whilst the pork belly was also good, there was just a touch of flavour missing. The cocktails were a pleasant surprise and I'd definitely go back for their excellent Whiskey Sour and Paloma. Overall a great dining experience!

One of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. The food is always tasty - special mention for the wild boar ragu with pappardelle. Service is attentive and friendly. Only snag is a very limited wine list
