The Diack Family Farm, Brightside is based in the foothill of the ancient Magaliesberg Mountain Range.

Blessed with rich, fertile soil the farm produces virtually all in-season vegetables used by il Contadino. Only organic(no poisons/inorganic fertilizers) methods are used to grow our vegetables. We are working towards using our seed, leaving a small portion of each crop to go to seed.

The farm also Provides free-range chickens, ducks, eggs, acorn-fed pigs, wild boar, grass-fed Suffolk Lamb, and Dexter beef. The plates of delicious food in the restaurant are decorated with beautiful flowers harvested in the garden.

The farm is a perfect circle in as much as all the manure from the animals is used in the garden and the composted cuttings. The egg shells and edible waste from the restaurant are put back into the soil and fed to the pigs. Even empty milk bottles adorn the soft fruit trees filled with natural bug lures to safeguard our fruit. The farm kitchens produce chutneys, jellies, some cheeses, and charcuterie products. Brightside is a magical, happy place with all manner of livestock foraging all over the place, staff working with a song on their lips, and of course the remarkable gardens.

I took my mom and family to Il Contadino for her birthday. From the moment we walked in, our experience was next level. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive. I would highly recommend the Wild Boar Ragu, seafood pasta as well as the blue cheese focaccia. We tried the apple crumble for dessert and it was amazing! We’ll be back soon.

il Contadino is truly a hidden gem! Everything about the place was just divine..from the delicious bacon Alfredo to the kind and joyful service to the quaint and cozy atmosphere!. I am a sucker for personal and intimate restaurant, where it doesn’t feel like you are going to get lost in a sea of tables and people…and il Contadino was exactly that! It’s small and private making everything so much more personal and perfect, making you feel like you’re in your own little bubble away from the noisy world! I will go back any day in a heartbeat!….if you are looking for a place filled with endless personal touches, small but cozy and romantic with a joyful atmosphere, yet still keeping it lux with outstanding morals! il Contadino is definitely the place to be!!! Love Love Loved it!!!!
