The Diack Family Farm, Brightside is based in the foothill of the ancient Magaliesberg Mountain Range.

Blessed with rich, fertile soil the farm produces virtually all in-season vegetables used by il Contadino. Only organic(no poisons/inorganic fertilizers) methods are used to grow our vegetables. We are working towards using our seed, leaving a small portion of each crop to go to seed.

The farm also Provides free-range chickens, ducks, eggs, acorn-fed pigs, wild boar, grass-fed Suffolk Lamb, and Dexter beef. The plates of delicious food in the restaurant are decorated with beautiful flowers harvested in the garden.

The farm is a perfect circle in as much as all the manure from the animals is used in the garden and the composted cuttings. The egg shells and edible waste from the restaurant are put back into the soil and fed to the pigs. Even empty milk bottles adorn the soft fruit trees filled with natural bug lures to safeguard our fruit. The farm kitchens produce chutneys, jellies, some cheeses, and charcuterie products. Brightside is a magical, happy place with all manner of livestock foraging all over the place, staff working with a song on their lips, and of course the remarkable gardens.

We had the most incredible dining experience here. The staff was attentive, and the food was absolutely superb and not to mention the aroma of, whilst we watched, freshly made pizzas. The highlight was the cozy couches on the side where we could lounge and dine. Definitely worth another visit!”

It was the second time I was here, and while the food was still very good, I had expected a bit more. I had a rolled pork belly on beans, and it was overall a bit dry and not the most flavourful. I didn't have my South African card on me and I wasn't able to pay with 2 different European Visa cards that I use every day here in SA. This wasn't a great experience, please get card machines that don't cause issues like this.

I took my mom and family to Il Contadino for her birthday. From the moment we walked in, our experience was next level. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive. I would highly recommend the Wild Boar Ragu, seafood pasta as well as the blue cheese focaccia. We tried the apple crumble for dessert and it was amazing! We’ll be back soon.
