Set in Nelson Mandela’s primary place of residence in the leafy-green suburb of Houghton, Johannesburg, Sanctuary Mandelas the home Madiba lived in after he returned from Robben Island, where he hosted the likes of Michelle Obama and Bill Clinton which later became the headquarters of the Nelson Mandela Foundation. Sanctuary Mandela is now a re-envisioned residency, a one-of-a-kind boutique hotel with 9 curated rooms and offers retreat spaces for reflection, healing and thought-provoking experiences inspired by the life and times of Nelson Mandela.

In Nelson Mandela’s household, food was more than sustenance. It was about tradition, family, home, sharing and enjoying meals with those he loved. In memory of his love for food, our fine dining restaurant serves as a tribute to his favourite dishes as previously prepared by his long-time personal chef, Xoliswa Ndoyiya.

    We made a reservation with full payment and when we got there ; there wasn’t any table for us except for the bar and we requested a refund and left

    Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry that your experience was disappointing and that we were unable to meet your expectations upon your arrival. Our Sunday Jazz Lunch runs from 12:00 to 15:00, with live jazz throughout the service. We allow a 15-minute grace period for guests arriving later than their reservation time. As we had not heard from you after this period, we understood that you would no longer be joining us and the table was released. We appreciate that arriving to find the restaurant fully booked would have been frustrating, particularly after making a reservation, and we are sorry for the disappointment this caused. Our reservations are carefully managed, and we do not intentionally overbook the Jazz Lunch. We value your feedback and will look at how we can communicate our reservation policies more clearly, while ensuring that our guests have a relaxed and enjoyable experience from the moment they arrive.

    Had an amazing women’s day celebration. The all female band was spectacular 🤩, the tour of the house beautiful and the food was amazing. The staff were just fantastic, shout out to the restaurant staff aswell, they were kind and patient..: all in all a beautiful day was had in your space ❤️✨💃🏽

    Our tour guide and waitress where magnificent. We enjoyed tremendously. Menu can be increased to atleast 5.
