La Parada Bar De Tapas first opened its doors in Bree Street – Cape Town’s hottest food strip – as a tribute to the Spanish bars that bewitched Hemingway. La Parada offers tapas born from Spanish heritage but curated for the South African palate.

With an impressive interior, boasting ornate pressed ceilings, a miscellany of chairs and lampshades and an eclectic selection of Spanish tiles, La Parada specialises in sharing small plates that incorporate a Spanish flair and a great vibe. With many patrons popping in for afternoon drinks and a light bite, rather than a sit-down dinner – which is after all the origin of tapas – the drinks list encourages as much experimentation as the menu.

    Had to wait 10min after seated to be served after going to find a waiter. Ordered and received everything but my pizza. After more than an hour food was finished and left without receiving pizza. They never told me it would take long when i ordered. Kept on saying they are waiting for the feta cheese. The pasta was amazing. Service was horrible,had to ask for cutlery,had to ask for sauces and waited 10min every time. Will never recommend or go back.

    Food was great for the price. My wife's "pork chops" was basically rashers with almost no meat on it, just fat. My pizza had very little cheese on it and dry. At least the starters and deserts were okay. Service was bad, the waiting times for drinks were around 45min each time, they were busy, so maybe understandable.

    The good was good when it arrived, however the service was slow even though the restaurant was not full. There is no kiddies menu.
