La Parada Bar De Tapas first opened its doors in Bree Street – Cape Town’s hottest food strip – as a tribute to the Spanish bars that bewitched Hemingway. La Parada offers tapas born from Spanish heritage but curated for the South African palate.

With an impressive interior, boasting ornate pressed ceilings, a miscellany of chairs and lampshades and an eclectic selection of Spanish tiles, La Parada specialises in sharing small plates that incorporate a Spanish flair and a great vibe. With many patrons popping in for afternoon drinks and a light bite, rather than a sit-down dinner – which is after all the origin of tapas – the drinks list encourages as much experimentation as the menu.

    Unfortunately our experience was very disappointing from the start. We pre booked a table, nothing was ready when we arrived. The waiting staff seemed lost. The food took 1.5 hours to be served, which is unacceptable especially as the restaurant was nearly empty with only 3 tables occupied. The quality of the food was average at best and overpriced for what it is. Lots of work to be done La Parada if you hope to survive.

    My ribeye was luke warm and the waiter needed a lot more training. He lacked confidence and he kept reaching across my partner and I. At one point he nearly hit me in the face with his tray as he leant over me to retrieve something.

    Very disappointing! We wanted to order the signature rump but was told there were no sauces. We then ordered a grilled one but it was dry and very cold. We had to request for it to be warmed up. The waitress (Sibusiso) was amazing though!

    Went on a Monday so i guess not the best day to visit a restaurant. Food and service wasn't great.

    The meat was a bit burnt...too burnt actually. The service was slow there were only 2/3 people working

    Unfortunately we were disappointed. The manager discounted our bill. It is a pity...it was a family celebration and we had expectations that the previous reviews were corrected especially because consistent apologies followed for the bad customer experiences. Mother's day is a special day and we chose to gather at the restaurant.

    Yesterday was supposed to be a special day as we had a reservation to celebrate Mother's Day. Unfortunately my experience was far from pleasant. From the moment we arrived, the service was not up to standard. Everyone in our group received their food, but I, as the mother, was left waiting, feeling increasingly isolated and forgotten. My son approached management to inquire about my order, and it was clear that it had been overlooked. Initially, I was patient and understanding, fully aware that it was a busy day. However, as time passed, my patience turned into disappointment and humiliation. I eventually asked them to cancel my order, as this incident ruined the entire meal. As a mother, it was a terrible experience to sit there and not receive my food. I will certainly not be returning to this restaurant.
