Set in a converted house in central Franschhoek, the atmosphere at Le Bon Vivant is homely and relaxed, while reminiscent of contemporary French restaurants. The glass wall allows you to see Pierre Hendriks and his team at work. Tables are also available in the shaded garden next to the restaurant for lunch and dinner on warm summer evenings.

    We have visited Franschhoek each year since 2010 (except 2020 & 2021) and always dine at Le Bon Vivent. We are never disappointed. The food is amazing and the service is impeccable. Our experience is always enhanced by the friendly and very accommodating staff who we have come to know over the years. We are looking forward to returning again next year during our annual trip to Franschhoek.

    Delicious food! Had the combination of different starters and 4 different mains, seafood and beef were excellent, the vegan option very tasty

    Overall, disappointing visit. The positives were the friendly staff and excellent wines (Holden Manz Chenin Blanc and Stony Brook Cab. Sav.), the courtyard setting is also pleasant to dine in. Unfortunately the food didn’t match up to the quality of the wines. The dishes were well presented however, my lamb loin was tough (medium) and the scallop dish to start was confusing to me. A surprisingly mix of cold sliced scallop with tomato however, a hot scallop on top. My wife enjoyed both dishes Gruyère/ salad then fillet beef as the main. Although, not a patch on Frank’s corner bar and grill which is nearby.

    Maybe we expected more, but the food on the whole was somewhat underwhelming. The gazpacho cup was far too sweet, almost sickly and other elements of the meal such as the tuna tartare also had sugar added. The scallop starter was poor value. One seared scallop and then four very thin scallop ceviche on a tasteless slice of tomato. The salmon starter was tasty and good value. Mains were Besblok which was good and crayfish which was tender and flavourful but set in a bland watery tomato sauce. Whilst not expensive for a “fine dining” experience, unfortunately it wasn’t really a fine dining experience.
