    We had such a lovely meal at this restaurant. Akona was an excellent server and provided great recommendations and service. Highly recommend!

    Thank you so much it was a wonderful evening to celebrate our engagement with 2 friends who were also staying in Franschhoek. It is a night we will not forget.

    We ordered 5 course taster menu with wine pairings. It was most of the waiters first night and they couldn’t even pronounce the wines let alone talk us through why they were pairings. There was no description of the food so didn’t know what we were eating. My wife has a nut allergy, which was mentioned multiple times. First dish came out with nuts on top of it which we luckily spotted. When we flagged to the waiter he said ‘the chef came out to discuss your allergy, and thought these would be okay’ - this never happened. The food was ok, but every course took so long and with only pairings portions of wine, we sat for very long periods between courses without a drink. The wine was always served a while after her food was brought out. The whole evening was spent with people apologising to us to the point it was awkward. Every table around us complained and think everybody got a discount (minimal discount). We abandoned the last course but were still the last people in the restaurant when the team decided to all sit down and have a debrief in front of us. It was just a very low end experience all round. The front of house was visibly stressed and running around on the phone and darting off to the office. Apparently the waiting staff and chef were new, which is fair enough but you can’t pitch yourself as a high end restaurant if you are basically attending during people’s training periods... It was last night of honeymoon and was all just a disappointing end when we have had such excellent culinary experiences for the rest of the trip.

    Fantastic in all respects. Beautiful ingredients perfectly cooked and presented. Some amazing flavour/ingredient combinations which really came together successfully. My wife was particularly impressed by the baked cheese dessert. It’s the first time she’s had ham served with a ‘pudding’ - but it worked beautifully. Thanks to Reese, our ‘service ambassador’(!). Three days in the job, but his attentiveness was much appreciated.
